9sp chains on 8sp gear

Post subject: 9sp chains on 8sp gear

One of my XC bikes is still 8sp, if I put a 9sp chain on, would the chain fit happily with the cassette?
I've used a 9sp chain on 8sp chainrings before, and as long as the shifters are compatable with the cassette I'm thinking I shouldn't have too many problems.

Anyone else tried using a 9sp chain?
