G'day all,

I'm planning on building a new wheelset using some 50mm carbon rims I have in the garage.
Chosen the CN Aero424 spokes (which I also used on my previous wheel-build).
Now I am stuck on choice for hubs.
The two choices I am currently looking at are:
Circus Monkey HRW2 White = 268 grams = $149 AUD ( http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/370546545101 ... 1438.l2649 )
Novatec F482SB-SL/A291SB-SL Black = 290 grams = $168 AUD ( http://www.bdopcycling.com/Hubs-F482SB-SL.asp ) + ( http://www.bdopcycling.com/Hubs-A291SB-SL.asp )

Aesthetically I prefer the Circus Monkey hubs as they are white and really want to build with white hubs for a white/black theme.

Just sharing my wheels that I just finished building yesterday. First wheels I have built so I'm fairly happy with them. Weigh in at around 1550 grams (not including tyres, etc of course) and cost under $400 (not sure of exact price).

Those Shimano front hubs, can the be rebuilt with regular straight pull spokes, or would only the OEM spare spokes do the job?

I have a set of 7850s next to me with a hub that looks just like that one with one of the spokes replaced by a straight-pull CX RAY.

It looks like Flo is releasing their Flo 30 as a rim only option. Paired with some BHS hubs, one could build a wheel that is pretty light, aero, and good braking for the price.

I'm happy, I like options!

How light can an event-only¹ aluminium tubular wheelset be built up? Been reading up on vintage tubular rims a bit. So here's my idea, with rough weights:

2x Mavic GL330 32h: 2 * 350 = 700g
BHS SLF85W, SL210: 85 + 210 = ~200g
48 x Superspoke, 16x D-Light DS rear: 48 * 3.6 + 16 * 4.8 = ~250g
Total: 1150g -- realistically in the high 11xx, with 10-20g for 64 alu nipples?

So I'm wondering, what spoke tension do those vintage Mavics take?

¹ Mostly vintage bike ice cream run with kids, maybe some hillclimb of the "sit and spin" kind

you would be ~1250 there if the other weights are accurate.

Uhm feeling a bit embarrassed now.

36h GL280s on Tune Mig70/Mag170 with Superspoke all around, to get down to 11xx territory, maybe?
(Just saying, wouldn't really want to fork out that sort of cash for such a wheelset)

So anyone know what tension a GL330 can handle?

Those old tubbie rims were not stiff and my worry would be with the super spoke you would end up with a wheelset that will flex enough to fatigue those expensive spokes quickly.

My old 32H super champion arc de ciel rims are 340g. The are on campagnolo large flange hubs with 2.0/1.7/2.0mm spokes and these are stiff enough for riding hard but I would hardly call the stiff. The build you are thinking about would be worse. wheels with these rims feel light becuase the rims are light not because the hubs are light or the spokes are see through.

Sapim super spokes are best used with very large bracing angles and very stiff rims, that my opinion anyway.

well, aint low weight cause hubs but rotating mass is. and disc brakes
