Interesting discussion from Michael Hutchinson on twitter about which record Cancellara will be aiming for.
Seems to think it likely to be a pursuit-legal bike which would mean all records post-Ole Ritter's 48.65km are non-legal...
I don't think that's what he's saying.
If the record is "current pursuit-legal", then Hutch says "The last Hour set on a bike that fits current pursuit rules may be @Chris_Boardman's 52.370". Then he points out Merckx's record bike was probably underweight for the current pursuit rules.
If Cancellara does a "pursuit-legal" record, that's pretty much a new thing. He'd be on an aero-track bike, with aerobars like pursuit riders ride, eg:

Maybe this was discussed previously, but what shoes is Contador using this season? I am sure they are specialized of some sort, but don't recognize if it is a new model or what based on the color.
