Whilst waiting for parts to arrive for my Yeti SB66 build, I got a little bored and decided to throw together a 1x10 29er to replace my ultra-reliable and ultra-light Cannondale F-series Caad 5 singlespeed.

I'm quite a big chap (200lbs and 6ft), so going silly light was not an option. I also wanted to bring the build in at under GBP1,000.

This is what I have ended up with (just waiting for all the parts to arrive now)

Salsa Mamasita – large 2013 frame
Gusset inset headset
Wheels Manufacturing BB30 bottom bracket
Exotic 29er carbon rigid fork

Formula RX brakes with lever adjust
Ashima 180 / 160 rotors

Sram S2200 carbon 175mm BB30 cranks
Absolute Black Sram spiderless 32t chainring
Shimano XT SPD pedals

Shimano XT M785 GS Shadow+ rear mech
Shimano XT 11-36 rear cassette
Shimano SLX I-spec B rear shifter
Hope Matchmaker adapter for RX brake lever / I-spec shifter

Superstar Switch front hub
Superstar Trizoid XC rear hub
Sapim Race spokes and alloy nibbles
Alex Supercomp EVO tubeless 29er rims
Stans tape, valves and fluid
Superstar 9mm through QR for front
Superstar hollow cro-mo QR for rear
Schwalbe Rocket Ron 2.25” Evo Snakeskin front tyre
Schwalbe Racing Ralph 2.25” Evo Snakeskin rear tyre

USE Atom Carbon 685mm flat bars
Syntace Magaforce 2 80mm stem
Maxm 27.2mm carbon seatpost

I could save a chunk by ditching the front through QR, but I want to retain the stiffness, so that will save. The tyres will also be a little heavy, but I don't want to be tearing sidewalls every 5 minutes and I wanted 2.25" to give me some cushioning from the rigid fork and alloy frame. If Schwalbe do a 2.25" version of the Thunder Burt, I may switch for those in due course.

No idea what it will end up weighing, but if I could get it down towards 20lbs, I would be a very happy man.

Thoughts?

Seems like a nice build, even more considering the budget.

Did you already had the fork or bought it now? If new, you should have gone for a 15mm, since it's a 29er and you are a big guy.

I've found nobby nic have better puncture protection than both roro or rara.

Waiting on the pictures :D

i already had the fork on the cannondale build. it is a non-tapered qr which is not perfect (as i have a tapered frameset), but it is the right length and with the through QR, it should be stiff enough as it's not having to content with sliding stanchions.

i am a big fan of schwalbe tyres and have run nobby nics on a previous turner flux, ro-ro / ra-ra on a previoud yeti asr5 and now a hans dampf and ra-ra combo on a yeti sb66. the nobby nics are a great allrounder but a little draggy for what i have in mind with this build.
