tubeless setup
Moderator: Moderator Team
I've read quite a bit about tubeless setup on cx and everyone seems to be pretty mixed.
I gave it a go some month ago, and I was surprised how good it is.
I'm using a 2014 CruX with SL23 Pacenti rims, and various tires (right now jet2), stan tape, stan valves, stan sealant.
The tires seat well and I've yet to burp. I run around 25 to 30psi (76kg). I tried 20psi for a while but the ride quality didn't please me.. however that didn't burp either. Outside of that, I went on muddy XC trips several times, no burps, nothing. I probably have 700 miles combined on them now.
My only issue is that there currently isn't any nice and cheap (open mold etc) carbon rim that's wide, tubeless, etc.
I wondered if there were more positive experiences.

They've always worked well for me (Ultegra/Hutchinson) and have never burped.
I've only had one puncture in three seasons (too big to seal).
The problem I have is finding tubeless tyres in the UK. A couple of places have started selling Vittorias and these seem decent so far but I'd like more choice.

I do have Stans Alpha 340 wheels on my cross bike. I've had Michelin Mud 2 tires , not a tubeless tire but am running tubeless, on them for over 5 months. Zero issues. When I took the front one off last week and shook it I could still hear the Stans inside the tire. I've done several gravel road races and the preformed very well including one that had a health dose of single track thrown in it.
RESIDENT GRUMPY OLD MAN.
