TuplaO wrote:Regarding the higher weights of pro bikes vs. consumer versions. From what I've heard (if memory serves), Specialized, for example, has 'blue' and 'red' frames (I forget which one is which). Anyway, the pro versions are heavier. The steerer tube wall thickness was roughly double, for example. The frames themselves also seem to have extra material. That may well account for the mystery extra 500g, or so, many pro bikes seem to have.
This is basically the Pinarello approach: sell a "pro version" to everyone. Great ride, some beef there to dampen vibrations, bomb-proof, and then lie about the weight. Result: great magazine reviews.

^How does a misleading frame weight affect a magazine review when most weigh the complete bike as tested?
Long live the horizontal top tube, standard crankset, and Italian threaded bottom bracket.
Because they you can't really feel frame weight anyway: difference in frame weight is like the difference of a full versus empty water bottle. So if they think it's light, they don't question it. If Pinarello named their frame "Pinarello Lardo", the writers would be talking about the sluggish acceleration. Or maybe not, since advertising revenue demands a positive review.

Yeah, yeah, yeah Ok, so maybe I say that a bit. Hey, but it's true! Almost the very first thing that people say when they check-out one of my bikes is: 'why is it so heavy?'
No no, in this instance I wanted you to chime in
Good lord. Looks like he is skipping the Cavendish off season diet:

Horner is sponsored by Garneau. He mentioned it on his twitter feed on January 1st.
