I am actually interested in what Bananabrah has to say. He has some strong pro veggie opinions but he's clearly not stupid, just perhaps quoting some inaccurate figures. I was especially interested in what you said about milk, as although I do like milk (don't drink it excessively though) I did have a breathing issue last year that I couldn't resolve (doc said it was asthma but inhalers didn't really seem to help) thinking of it now it could have been something to do with the amount of dairy in my diet. I do get phlemmy when I glug down milk, but I love milk on my porridge so it's catch 22. I've been dabbling with a raw food/vegan fad diet for some time as some of the info i've read seems to report health benefits, but it's tough to fill the cavern that is my stomach on just blueberries, bananas and other such stuffs!
Meat and pasta and veg is my normal staple. Or spuds as an alternative (Irishman you see!)
Interesting thread though!
I think food wise, a balanced diet is the key, and not too much junk food. Getting pissed up is what does me in. No energy to ride afterwards and just takes days to feel better again (I am 33 now). Also i've been eating a lot of pizza and only just got back into cycling and i've been fat and slow recently but starting to see my form returning now the healthy diet has resumed and i'm not eating a fatman pappa johns once a week!
