I used to get my legs waxed - had a lady with a home salon built in her garage and got them done pretty cheaply. Supposed to not hurt that badly if you had it done under every 6 weeks as the roots are not supposed to fully reformed but it's a lie. Always hurt like hell, especially the back of the knees for me - read shock symptoms - sweating, lightheaded!

Additional downside to waxing is you have to let the hairs grow long enough for the wax to get hold so they can be pulled. So a week or two of stubble legs.

Now shave a couple of time a week in the shower and like Murphs even if I had to give up riding I don't think I could go back to hairy legs.

Having not shaved since before I met my wife, getting back into riding last year, and feeling like a cyclist again, I shaved Sunday.
Of course, she has not stopped complaining or teasing since.

Was shaving before I met my wife. She still loves my smooth legs.

Two times a week in the shower is my routine too.

I guess each person's experience is different? :noidea:
Waxing hurt the first time, now I barely notice that it's happening at all.
As for stubble: the hairs come out soft and thinner compared to stubble from shaving, which has hair follicles that are thicker and hard-edged from the blade cut.
Yes, you have to wait until the next round, but for some it lasts longer than others. 6 weeks between sessions for me, and I'd rather have a period of some slight hair showing than deal with having to shave often and deal with rough stubble.

To each their own!

As cyclists we are constantly asked why? we shave our legs. Often some chopper will say 'is it to be more aerodynamic?' or 'is it to save weight?'. Normally you would scoff in the face of such preposterousness, but as a weight weenie you can't help but ask the ultimate question: How much weight does shaving your legs save?

I have the answer, who wants to guess?
yes, but how much does it weigh?

......depends how hairy you were to begin with.

I shave for two reasons:

1. It looks cool
2. When you wreck the road rash doesn't hurt as bad

EDIT: I forgot to guess........2 grams

Also post-ride self massage to loosen up the muscles is way more comfortable hairless. But ofcourse, the prime reason, showing up some deep cut definition and thick exposed veins will make other riders on the local groupride think twice before they challenge you up that hill sprint ;)

sorry I should have made myself clear I think weight and aero advantages will make an immeasurable difference.
Reasons for shaving is a whole other discussion but imo the main ones are:
-Looks 'good' / you're a chopper if you don't shave
-Road rash
-It Makes massage/ foam rolling much easier
Lets keep this thread pointless

I've always assumed it was to make massages much less cringey and to make cleaning up road rash and cuts a bit easier

The massage and road rash reasons are technically valid, which make them easy explanations for the uninitiated. But in all seriousness, they are nothing if not secondary reasons. But you just can't talk to co-workers about veins, mind-games and traditions as you use your lunch break to buy new lady shavers... :)
