Hi All,

I thought I would post a a thread with details of my Z5SLi as it comes together.
I have ordered the frame set from the lovely Dave at Pedalling Gear in Wooburn Green.

We've been backwards & forwards quite a bit but am happy with the final paint choice, see below:
Image

Open to input on components as I go.
So far the plans are:
Dura Ace 9000 groupo.
(But fancy a different crankset)
Lightweight Meilenstein wheels
Lightweight Bars
EE Brakes
Stem, Post, Saddle etc still up for grabs.

Any thoughts?

Knoxxy.

Have you ordered it yet? The SLi is only lighter because they cherry pick the light frames off the z5 line. If your gona paint it just get a z5 and save the extra $1000. Your dealer should have told you that to be honest..

I'm getting a z5sli next week too! Should build around the 5.2kg mark with mixed my campag gruppo
Mines gona be black, with black highlights and a whole lot more black.. Awesome

If you're gonna run a blingy build kit, why get a fairly boring looking, Asian made frame? You've clearly got the money for a z-zero or similar. Paint looks fine but kind of boring, basically like a parlee.

I'm a Z5 SLi owner, and I love it. Also went custom paint, because I like the bike looking a bit different. Having met Bob Parlee, I think he would probably laugh a lot at the 'boring looking Asian frame' line, but each to their own!

Are you going Matt Gray or gloss? New EEs look great.

Just boxed my bike up for a week in the mountains, and I can't wait, I'm sure yours will give you as much pleasure!

Nice paint scheme! But I tend to agree on the Z5i vs Z5SLi comment. A SLi version would make more sense without paint (or with a very minimalist paint scheme). But in the end, it is your choice! Choose whatever you think translates in a better bike for you

The rest of the components is similar to what I am planing for my NeilPryde Bura SL (but I confess I am in a dilemma with a Campy SR EPS with the v2 battery right now).

I am going with a Rotor 3D+ crank (with a powermeter). A THM Clavicula or M3 always looks classy.

Mine is getting built with M3 cranks, ee brakes, extralite stem cap expander, berk combo, mcfk seat clamp, ergonova ltds, Enve/extralite sub kilo wheel-set pretty much a transplant from my old Parlee
Will be going to eps v2 later in the year too

Yeah, I'm aware that the SL is just picked off the line with lighter weight.
Painted or unpainted I figured it will still end up lighter than the standard Z5 equivalent.
And Dave helped me out with a killer deal, so thought I would go SL.

THM M3 is a good shout.
Like the Rotor except the 1980's graphics! And won't be fitting a power meter.

Also considering Extralite stem & post.
I see MCFK are about to release a carbon stem, could be interesting.

All paint will be gloss finish.
Parlee gloss finish is sweet.

As an extralite fan I can give the big thumbs up to both of those choices
M3 is 1000% a better crank than the rotors, new campag pf cranks also worth a look and will look great.
If the deal is worth it then I can see why you got an SLI too paint.
What's the target weight for your build. Mine is low 5.3kgs.. But I reckon 5.2gs is workable

I was thinking anything around 5.5kg would be a result.
I'll be going for Lightweight Clinchers, so an extra few hundred grammes there.

the M3 crank, in a matte clear would look pretty good I think...

I just had my Z5 SLi repainted matte gray (see it another thread) and it added only 30 grams versus the standard ghost matte. Bought the black eebrakes, and they are ready to be mounted. Went with the heavier 9000/9070 setup because the Praxis rings on Cannondale crankarms, although light, resulted in some inefficient chain rub that couldn't be adjusted away. Money no issue, I'd spring for the THM cranks though, and maybe a Dash seatpost/saddle combo. My size is M/L Tall, I figure 6 kg is as low as I'd try to go if I kept down the weight weenie path and limit myself to clincher versus tubular wheelsets.

2012 Parlee Z5 SLi (just because)
2014 Colnago C59 (why not)

You should easily be able to get under 6 even with a 1400g wheelset, the devil is In the details..
Cable set is worth 100-150g on a large bike and has good $/g ratios
Extralite expander and a light top cap is an easy 50g
Light post and saddle or a combo is good for 150-250g
There shouldn't be any steel bolts in use any where on the bike
And stay away from fact rot skewers they are a over kill
