After a bit of delay LB sent me 2 new rims with out the "thick clear coat" issues.

Braking is good. Dry only. I have not tried wet.

No buildup of brake material so far - 100km ride through Sydney with lots of braking for lights etc.

Very very happy with the new set.

I will update if this changes.

Is the braking any better/different without the clear?

Not sure if I am going to ask for new rims still

I don't understand how this is possible with standard nipples unless they put an extra layer of carbon on after building them. Magnets? Aluminum is not ferromagnetic so I don't see how this would help. I am planning on building up some LB rims myself and would love to know how to do it without drilling through the tire bed.

It's a pretty common practice. Regular nipples.
Here's a video to help you figure out how it's done:

Haha..cool. But I didnt know those aluminum Fulcrums were "high-end" racing wheels like the outdated video suggests.

Cool technique, simplest of solutions sometimes.

What gets me a tad pissed is I bought a set of 40mm Hongfu aero rims. Then not long after, light came out with their 45mm, which I prefer. Yet, even with the 5mm added depth and no holes drilled, they are the same weight as my Hongfu.

Oh well.

Speedcarbon11 from eBay. They're good to the claimed 410+/-20gm. Build quality looks very good.

Waiting on delivery of the hoops...
23wide x 20mm
20h/24h
BHS SL85W front hub
BHS UL190 rear hub
Cxrays with prolock nipples.
Est. Sub 1000 :)

Found these from Nextie Bikes on eBay. I wanted something wider than the standard 19mm wide low profiles, so I don't have to adjust the brakes when switching between my other 50x25mm wheels.

I don't know... Enve, Zipp, and Reynolds eventually conceded that they couldn't make rims that light that would hold together. If *you* are very light and easy on wheels, maybe you'll be ok.

Are those clinchers or tubulars

For the record the enve 25 rims are 35gr heavier not 200. Don't know why everyone is losing their shits. Maybe they assumed they were clinchers which would be bonkers. You'll be fine.

Seems to be much envy for those super light rims. I would use them for a hill climb race any day. I weigh 71kg. Enjoy them!

I think ENVE has a reason to add weight on their rims - less overheated brake tracks-specially on low profile rims - less mass less cooling

All the big carbon rim manufacturers (with substantial R&D budgets) have tried to make rims that light... and they don't anymore. Does that indicate anything to you?

It would take a lot of faith to believe that an obscure Chinese company has done it better. They may be ok for light use, but no way are they robust general use rims.
