the claim is all you need is new rear derailleur and cassette; and you might need to update the firmware/get a new front junction box and cables.

If you have the newer SM-EW90 A all you need is the associated battery charger, SM-BCR2.
If you have the older SM-EW67A-E you will need the SM-PCE1 PC interface.

Pardon my lack of knowledge on this.... does the new junction box not just replace the old one? why new cables needed?

6770 can shift 11speed, if you use a 9070 rear derailleur. 9070 can shift 10speed, if you use a 6770 rear derailleur.

Well, along with the 9 (10spd) or 10 (11spd) steps for gear change, they also have 15 steps inward and 15 steps outward from the initial position.
I thought a stepper motor was configured such that 'X' number of steps were assigned to Rad or 360 degrees, not equated to the output of a linkage system (ex. the derailleur). Meaning the stepper motors are fabricated such that there could very well be 500 steps (the ones I've used had over 2000) per 360 degrees of rotation. So to when programming how many steps would equate from one cog to another would be something like 1500 or 2000 steps, depending on if there is a gear box, or other mechanical advantage linkage (i.e. RD).
If this was the case, someone could easily reprogram the # of steps to go from 10 to 11 cassette. Someone tell me if I am way off on this. FYI, I still use cable shifting. The Di2 is still voodoo to me.

I'm a little confused.... i was under the impression that I didn't have to change the junction box, just get the SM-PCE1 for the Etube ability and update. and then change the rear Der, and cogset.....

In a recent crash, I bent my RD-6770 derailleur plates (in addition to my frame's derailleur hanger). If RD-6770 and RD-6700 parts are the same, it looks like plates are Shimano parts Y5X998030 (outer plate) & Y5X908100 (inner plate) (Tech doc PDF: http://goo.gl/0QH4t2).
I was running short cage plates ("SS"), but I'd also be open to running medium cage plates ("GS").
Does anyone know where I can buy replacement parts? If this wasn't Di2, I'd probably just buy a new derailleur.

You don't need to change junction box if running 6770 since it uses the same wire as 6870/9070. Only change junction box if you want to run Shimano internal battery mod.

Harald, no I don't believe so as RD controls if it is 10 or 11 speed. I don't want to say never ever as I'm sure someone will be able to find some hack.

Great so it looks like in total I'll need, 11 speed derailleurs, 11 speed cassette and update. is anyone have a solid answer on whether both derailleurs are needed? or just the rear unit

I'm not sure I have read anyone using 6770 shifters and tried 6870/9070 RD/FD yet. Hopefully in the upcoming months we will hear more about that. But speculation was that you only needed the RD as this was the 'brains' for whether it is 10 or 11 speed.

I can confirm this use case: FD-6770 + RD-9070 will work as 11-speed (on an otherwise 9070 time trial setup).
One observation: an FD-6770 auto-trims differently vs. an FD-9070. My notes (and video) below, where largest cog = 1 and smallest cog = 11. I'm highlighting when the trim events occurs, e.g. "7-to-6"....
