That said, I'm hoping the pricing can be competitive with that from Felt otherwise, that's the way I go this year
Are you referring to the current ones or the new 2014 stuff?
The 2014s looks pretty similar, same Squoval 3 tubing, internal routing, etc. In fact, I'm failing to find what the difference is other than weight.

Either of the R5s is a very different bike to the R3 SL from 2007 for example.
As far as 2014 R series go, the difference is the layup. Maybe a bit of stiffness and less weight. That's about it.
That's why I'm probably gonna get a R3, personally

@ ricerocket
The 2014s are different bikes for sure, The 2014 R5 has a different fork and I think every "tube" is a different shape. : ) I am sure it's going to ride different.
That being said there was a difference between the R3sl and 2011-2013 R5 to, major changes to geometry and the lay up. The front end of the R5 is stiffer and there is more vertical compliance in the seat tube junction.

My point was that, for instance, a Supersix Evo is a very different frame to my Supersix HM, but the unit cost to the consumer did not go up by 40% in the process.

funny how you guys talk about things you have no knowledge of (layup) and you miss what is there for everyone to see internal rear brake cable, Di2 - ready / Internal (Mechanical) Shift cabling, tube shapes

Hey I have too, I'm also an FSAE alum.
Thanks for confirming what I thought. I'm most interested in seeing if they're just hitting the same stiffness figures w/ cheaper layup schedules, or if the R3 loses some stiffness to the R5. I'm not a huge weightweenie, despite my desire to be on this board.
I'm also curious how this is versus a Foil, Propel, or any other bike that's marketed as an aero road bike.

@ GT56,
I am only 90% sure but think both Damon Rinard and Phil White have said that all their bikes have individual layups based on size and type of bike requirements. : )

I work mostly with the aero group, but we do fabrication too. As far as what Cervelo showed in the white paper for the RCA, they showed superiority to the Trek Madone KVFs. I'm guessing the shape is better than the Foil but worse than the Propel/Venge/new S3/S5. It's probably not that far off the true aero bikes, though.

I would have loved to see some more colour at Cervelo 2014 bikes.
Specialized Tarmac S-works SL7 (Satin carbon spectraflair tint)
Specialized Tarmac S-works SL6 (Green Cameleon)
Specialized Tarmac Pro SL6 Disc (Blue/Teal Sram Force AXS)
Specialized Epic Elite 29
Greetings from the Netherlands
