Hi all,

i'm looking to get a light wheelset built (currently both my pairs weigh around 1800 / 1900 gr.)

I have Tune mig /mag 70/170 hubs, (32 hole hubs) looking to get these built up with IRD cadence / VSR rims
i was hoping for CX ray spokes however a buider i spoke to said he'd only build with DT comp spokes....

My max weight is 80kg - mostly around 78.
Wheels would not be used everyday.

So the question is....

Could they be built as follows to a safe tension for my 80kg?

32h front and rear, sapim CX ray 3x, ird rims

or could i get away with 28h front and rear, CX ray 3x???

If i could get away with 28H i'd swap the hubs for 28h.

would 32h be stronger than 28h???

thanks
J

Or 24f/28r. Front wheels are stiffer due to hub geometry so they don't need as many spokes.

32 spokes is stronger than 28. But since you are about 170 pounds, you could get away with 28. Best would be 32 rear, 28 front. 3 cross on 32 hole rims. 2 cross on 28 hole rims. 2 cross won't have all the spoke alongside the hub flange. 3 cross on a 28 hole rim will have all the spoke laying against the flange and will not look good. Cross is always better than radial. Spokes pull out at an angle and have more hub material to pull against. Radial pulls straight out and has only a tiny amount of hub material to pull against. Radial breaks hub flanges. I doubt the spoke maker matters. As long as these are stainless, they will be fine. I use Sapim spokes because Dan's Comp sells them very cheap. Cost rules.
