Hi!

I'm looking into upgrading my frame, and a lighter one would be great. Therefore, which frames that you know of are sub 1 kg?

Scott scale
Cannondale flash
Open 1.0
Nakamura/Diamant (Apro-tek mc709ca)
Trek Superfly SL
Rocky Mountain Vertex
BMC te01
Fun-works 29"
Stockli beryll carbon 29"

Hub/Seatpost/BB standard are irrelevant

think my Vertex is sub 1kg, it rides very well, the geometry is dialed in for 29er

im upgrading my frame to...call me bitter but i here to manny stories about cf mtb frames failing, including my trek, me mates rocky, other mates specialised.
i have been training, losing wait and trying to get in shape and now my frame has given in, fck that im going back to a 1.8 kilo frame that is dependable !

dont get me wrong i love the ride, i love my cf collage, i just dont think cf is made for mtg hardtail frames

I bought a 2012 Scale. I loved the ride but the carbon dropouts are not strong enough to hold the rear wheel. The rear wheel continuously came loose eventually ovalizing the dropout and the wheel would no longer sit straight. If you google it, you can find many instances of the same problem.
Scott agreed to a partial warranty and got me a 2013 for $300. Same problem with this one. I am thinking about contacting Calfe and see if they can cut out the dropouts and replace with some alloy ones. I would not buy another one unless they address the problem.

Sorry I strayed from the topic.
well under 1000g for a medium frame.

I am thinking of getting a Cannondale Flash myself.

^ more details? sounds like more a function of a skewer without enough clamp force? I couldn't find anything on google...

Rumor has it they will have 142x12 thru-axles for 2014 which would fix that problem.

Nino Schurter is riding with thru-axles on his 27.5" hardtail so guess the rumor is true :-)

Scott's 2013 27,5 scale already had the 142x12 axle so it will for sure be used in the 2014's 29er!

Scott teams (3Rox and Swisspower) have a bunch of Scale 29ers with thru-axles already

Do you have a source for this? Previously Specialized were known to be quite heavy, no?

I thought the Specialized was 1050g? (as stated here on bikeradar)

Does anybody know the Giant XTC advanced SL frameweight? Dutch website says 1100g, but I've read 1040 including the seatpostclamp.

Only that the Trek employee (direct, not shop staff) I know (is in my MTB club) was happy that the Trek Superfly at a claimed 849g undercut the Spesh by 1g, I may have got the exact model wrong.

I have a Scott Scale 2012 and have no problems whatsoever with my rear wheel and I am 80 kg. Did you ever try a other wheel? I have had the same problem with a Cannondale Caad 4 frame. My Cannondale dealer first tried a other wheel and that was the same. I even went to a framebuilder to ask if he could help me. At the end the problem was the Coda hub, my dealer used a wheel with the same hub to try. I changed to a Mavic wheel and the problem was solved. I suggest you try a other wheel and then a other quickrelease.

BTW I realy love my Scale, great bike!
