Yet if you look at the standings, plenty rode TdF (Schleck :00, Rogers :05, Voigt 2:16, etc). Froome and Porte apparently are just training. http://velonews.competitor.com/2013/08/ ... rte_299431

I guess some of the big names show up to race, and some just show up. Not that I'm disappointed this early on.

Happened to be watching as Froome got dropped near the top of that little climb. Was impressed with his descending down the other side. Dropped the motos and the other rider that was with him.

IIRC he took off after the post-Tour crits and hadn't ridden until this past week when they arrived in the US correct? If so that's 3 weeks off the bike, but not sure if I'm remembering that correct.
Don't take me too seriously. The only person that doesn't hate Froome.

Must be a flare up of the Bilharzia again, a trip to Tenerife for some preparation will sort him out again.

From David Millars Twitter feed:
I'm feeling a little bit sad about leaving Aspen tomorrow, especially via a 4000m mountain pass, what a surreal & lovely place.

Although racing bikes up here is proper horrible, after 80km I felt like I was approaching the Cipressa in Milan-San Remo after 280km.

Looks like the intensity and altitude is hitting them hard..

LeePaton- go take a look at the Tour of Quinhai Lake results...sustaining any sort of 'going into the red' attack at altitude is incredibly hard.

Well, Tom Danielson and Tyler Hamilton are among past winners of Tour of Quinhai Lake. I wonder if their "help"
is particularly helpful at high altitude?

Froome just took 3 weeks off and probably ate something. Plus he is probably seriously checked out mentally. Mind boggling that people would expect him to be in contention.

Interesting to see if he can get back going for Worlds w/o the Vuelta.

Henao designated as team leader for the Vuelta even though Uran is also down to ride, which maybe suggests the latter is choosing it as training for the Worlds. No Wiggins or Froome; that was expected.

No one talks about Wiggin's planned retirement and semi confession that he couldn't stand being second fiddle yet?
