Took my first ride on my new Scott Spark FS 29er - I am blown away!
After more than 20 years riding Cannondales, I have finally decided to try something new: the Scott technology has always impressed me, so I thought I would give the Scott Spark a chance. In many regards, both FS 29er cannot even begin to compare.

It's been a long day, but needless to say, "the ride" of the month for sure.

The Spark comes in at 21.75lbs - it's about to loose 1 to 1.5 more pounds, but I'll have to wait for the next paycheck for that.
HIGHLIGHTS

Goal: trail-worthy and 20.5lbs

Nice looking bike - sound like a really nice setup. How is your "normal" xx rear derailleur working out with 1x10 speed? do you ride where there is a lot of roots?

I tried the XX1 cranks with XX rear for about 20 days (while waiting for the XD/XX1 driver for the rear to come in). The chain didn't drop once!
Roots... Huge downhill rock gardens... Jaw breakers... I am more worried about my old age, but not at all worried about the chain dropping. It's super quiet too, and of course, without a front chain guide.
The XX1 rear has given me more climbing ease for really steep and long stuff, but I can get pretty close to that with a 28T (on order).

I really have to work my wheel situation; torn between:
Carbon Enve 29 XC tubeless
Carbon Enve 29 XC Tubular (hummm)
Mavic CrossMaxx SLR 29

Overall, I am looking for a super light rig with very stiff and durable wheels.

You should add Nox XCR-29 carbon rims to your list. They are somewhat local to me - making some kick ass stuff. I think rims are about same weight as Enve but they have lighter wheel builds.

Just curious on your set up. I'm running 1X10 on my Pivot, with a 32 up from and 11/36 rear. The 32 sucks climbing, which we do a lot of in So Cal. Have you found yourself spinning out with the 30? I've debated making the change but I fear spinning out on descents.

I spin out on the road with the 30T up front on slight downhill like a faux plat, but this is a mountain bike; I try to avoid roads. The 10-42 never let me spin out, but it's all a compromise - I am sticking with a 11-36. In fact, I am going with a 28T up front because of the long hills. After mile 30+, it's nice to have something a little easier for hills.

For a real downhill, in the woods, or open land... I never spin out: I just let gravity take over, and am known to stay off the brakes.

I ran out of money... ... and I have been cut off!
My last modify will be arriving later today: Mavic CrossMax SLR wheels - I'll let you know the weight and will compare it with ZTR Crest wheels from NoTubes. The mavic have proven themselves to me in the past as being very durable, super stable... and even offering a much nicer ride that's seemed more predictable.
Completed bike photo to come (soon).
Time to ride now.
