Thanks!
I am thinking about the new ST-R785 hydraulic STI's and an Ultegra RD-6770 rear derailleur for a single chainring cyclocrosser...

Which shfioters - Ult 6770 or 6870 shifters? 10-speed or 11-speed cassette? If 11-speed with 6770 shifters, it would be really nice to know how your friend got that to work?

The 10 speed shifters work just fine with 11 speed everything else. Assuming you have the latest firmware.

I believe this has been answered ad nauseum. 10-speed shifters (Ultegra 6700) will work with 11-speed derailleurs. The E-Tube system was designed to allow this. No need for special programming or fiddling. Just plug and play. The 11-speed function is controlled by the rear derailleur. All the shifter does now is send an electronic signal to the rear derailleur, telling it to shift up and down, that's it. It doesn't tell the derailleur to shift to gear 4 or 7 or 11, just "up one" or "down one" or "up X" depending on what you have programmed.

Actually it has not been definitively answered with regards to specifics of what is required. The versatility of e-tube technology is still somewhat confusing and I think those running Ultegra Di2 6770 groups are wanting to know whether they can simply upgrade derailleurs and cassette or is there more to it than that in order to run 11-speed shifting from what was originally a 10-speed Di2 group.

The original question was regaring shifters. Here's an answer, as posted on day one of the announcement:

"The 6870 and R785 groups are cross-compatible with both 10-speed 6770 components as well as the new Dura-Ace 9070 components, but [not] Dura-Ace 7870, as it does not use the E-Tube software. This means riders with 10-speed 6770 have the option to upgrade to 11-speed without having to replace their ST-6770 levers or brake calipers." - http://velonews.competitor.com/2013/07/ ... kes_292856

I understand the issue with the cableing, and that is something left to be researched, given that Shimano did upgrade the cables to make them lighter/simpler, but they also did that to the shifters as well.

No unfortunately there is no software option (yet) to change that. However you can use 11speed cassette and remove one cog. So spacing between cogs is correct.

Can you put the 11-speed cassette, with one less cog on a 10 speed wheel? It will fit ok?

Hi Folks, I just wanted to let you all know that I now have the Dura Ace 9000 crank fitted to my 10 speed drive train. 53/39 combo and it works perfect with Ultegra Di2. This is my bike http://www.evanscycles.com/products/tre ... 1#features

This set up seems to have a lot of controversy surrounding compatibility issues - on forums and my LBS. For anyone wanting to buy this great bit of kit with a similar set up to me then go for it. If people don't believe me I can post a video to youtube of the front derailleur shifting as it should.

:D
You can't 'out train' a bad diet : )
