Finally got around to finishing this build. I had the old version of the Orbea Orca, but unfortunately the chainstays were too narrow to acomodate the newer wide rim designs. It got me thinking that it's going towards wider rims, and at some time it would probably be hard to get top wheels on this frame. So as I had the chance to buy a new frame and components, it was easy.

So here's the build list. Although this is Weight Weenies, I wanted a bike that had a good mix of stiffness and weight. I could have chosen lighter alternatives, but they would probably flex when sprinting.

Frame: Orbea Orca Gold, size 53
Groupset: SRAM Red 22 speed, 11-26 cassette
Crankset: Rotor 3D+ Power2Max BB30, SRAM X-glide chainrings, 172,5 mm and 50/34
Stem: FSA Energy 110 mm
Handlebars: FSA Energy Compact 420 mm
Pedals: Speedplay Zero SS
Wheels: Reynolds Aero 58 Carbon Clincher
Tires: Continental GP4000S
Saddle: Selle Italia Flite Monolink
Cables: Gore Ride-On

I like it a lot.

How are you liking the SRAM Red 22?

Holidays in a few countries; also there is a tendency on WW to favor the big names or the custom names. Orbea is not a "big" name compared to others, nor are they rare (like Simplon, Enigma, Endorphin, for example)

Very well done (other than the aforementioned bar tape). I love the way it's put together. Nice attention to detail.

Yes, bartaping is not my specialty. Thanks for all the kind replies.

I like my Power2Max. Will probably send it back to Germany when the season ends to have it updated with the latest software. It's quite easy to use, and I just changed the battery in it a couple of days ago - took 3 minutes.

SRAM Red 22 is nice. The shifting is pretty good, although I have yet to fine tune it completely. There's still some issues with getting it on the largest cog in the rear, and the front shifting could be better. But racing in Denmark I rarely use anything but the largest chainring, and never hit the 26 in the back. Not much noise or rattle from the cassette or chain. Very much like the Force cassette I used to use. I'm pretty happy with the full setup :)

This bike just screams performance. I'm also curious about the ride of the 58 Aero wheels. Very well spec'd!

The Aero wheels are quite nice. They seem to roll very fast, and I find myself pushing a harder gear when using these. It could be placebo, but it seems that these wheels really like to go fast, and have the ability to do so.

They're quite stiff, although not as stiff as my previous Mavic Cosmic Carbone SR's, but it's not something I notice unless I really put the hammer down. They're definately stiffer than the 404 Firecrests I had before, especially the rear wheel. Braking performance is quite good in the dry. I have yet to try it out in wet conditions, but in the dry they're very similar to that of an alu brake track.

I didn't get a chance to put them on the scale before mounting them(was in a hurry), but they seem light. When riding them they pick up speed very fast, and on shorter hills they're fantastic.

Overall I'm quite happy with them. They fast, quite stiff, and they make a nice sound when pushing them hard. I've hit some potholes and they're still true.

The only downsides that I can think of is that the Aero 58 decal is a bit cheesy compared to the Reynolds logo :D

For me since my purchase of ORBEA ORCA STH 11s Campagnolo on september 2011 (3700 euros) the rear shifting was never good;i must choice to tune on rear DR for having no noise on high speed or slow speed but not twice ! -->much noise or rattle from the cassette or chain :x

the first week after my purchase in 2011 i go back to see my dealer who sold this bike but never find something to solve and was very bad in his investigations ... So for now, july 2013, my bike after the need to change the rear cable by another good mechanic dealer who confirmed that there's a big problem! we've determined that the Campagnolo system wasn't adapted for this kind of frame associated to the concept of gore cable routing ; large frictions
My bike was blocked to this dealer with no solution for 3 months now and Orbea has nothing to say for now; i'm very disappointed...

Did you already have to resolve this kind of problem ?
