Today’s dumbass road bike adventure.

In retrospect, I am an idiot. I set out on a mountain gravel road that doesn’t appear on any map, climbed over a mountain on extremely rough roads, and didn’t have cell service. Nor did I tell anyone where I was going. Dumb.

What was so dumb about that?
(I actually do that sort of thing pretty often, I just don't tell anyone close to me before nor after that I'm going to do it.)

I think the situation is a little different in LA. If something happened to me deep in the Catskills, nobody would find me for days or weeks. Plus no cell phone service for miles around.

Basilic- he took a pretty nasty tumble descending Joux Plane direction Samoens in the JPP. It was either car or ditch and chose ditch. 3 compressed vertebrae, Sallanches hospital said op but luckily HUG is now saying no op....phew!

Ps amazing shots as always! Was down in Sestriere last summer and took a look at the gravel but wasn't equipped and was a rainy day, jealous!

The thread has so many great pictures that it'd deserve a dedicated book.

Thanks to all who take the time to upload those fantastic pictures.

It's not often in this country that you feel the need to wait until the evening to go out for a ride as it's too hot during the day. I'm not complaining though!

Some amazing photos over the last few pages of this thread. Truly inspiring

Here's a few of mine from a recent trip to Germany with the Mrs (Trier on Luxembourg border, and then Koblenz at the other end of the Moselle river)

Your typical German cycle path, super awesome. Why can we no haz in UK?

After 3 solid days of my Garmin reading >40c we had a really stormy day, which resulted in (weathergeeks) CAPE of 5000 J/kg (the sort of supersized storms that produces tornados in the USA). Over 31000 lightning strikes were detected across Germany in 2hrs. But anyway it produced a nice sunset, and it was cool watching the lightning

Very easy 40km winter morning's ride around the bays in Wellington... well it was until it started pouring with rain. At that point I decided to tempo it back home!!
