 touché.

Finally got a power profile to come a bit closer to matching it.

A teammate of mine has several top 20 NRC finishes and weighs exactly the same with a similar 20min output. Your 1min is also more than adequate for even a world tour rider, so its somewhat surprising to hear that you have issues.

Think it's probably a combination of factors:
These are training numbers - except for sprints, i don't hit the same numbers in racing which is a bit frustrating. This is even the same for TTing - recently did 340W for 20' on my TT bike in training then struggled to hold 320W for 30' a few days later...
These numbers are from one powermeter - a lot of the guys where i ride have them and the variation is a whole lot more than +/-2%...

What PM? That would be really annoying for variation to be high like that.

It's a power2max which i absolutely believe is consistent - my point was just that there is a large variation in the absolute measurement between the different powermeters on friend's bikes. Ie, i think that generally powermeters have high precision but not necessarily good accuracy.

Regarding race performance there is something in the way i prepare which just doesn't seem to lend itself to good performance, don't know if it's nerves, lack of sleep, something i'm eating but it needs to be worked out - i've found on stage races that my numbers can improve once i get in the rhythm or the race or i think it's something mental...

My own numbers:

5sec: 1246w
1min: 689w
5mins: 472w
20mins: 419w

My weight is 78kg, so my FTP based on 95% of 20mins is 5.1w/kg

71kg

5 sec : 17.8 w/ kg - club ride sign sprint
1 min : 8.5 - tested a few month ago
5 min : 4.9 - from a race
20 min : 4.4 - from a TT last week
Est FTP : 4.2 (95% of 20min)

My sprint power is good, but I can never come up with those watts at the end of a race having been stretched at my 3 minute power in the final run in. I also struggle with repeatability, big efforts really take their toll. Is the best way to improve that simply to push it in training by doing lots of repeats?

I'm racing as a UK 3rd cat, aiming for 2nd cat. I'm managing to stay with the lead group in RRs, but struggle when the race goes up hill. Won a 3/4 circuit race a few weeks back though from getting in a 3 man 35 minute break, and dropping them both in last few mins.

Edit: 5 sec power was wrong.

30sec: 13.26w/kg - 955w
1min : 10.26 w/kg - 739w
5min : 6.05 w/kg - 436w
10min: 5.61 - 404w
20min: 5.21 w/kg - 375w
60min: 4.98 w/kg - 359w

Been some time since this thread has seen some real love'n, but I got the email with Stoo's update so I will play too!

Excuse the poor numbers, I have a 4yo and a 6mo old which means training time is rather limited, I would have like have improved much more than I have over the past few months but sporadic training makes it hard at the best of times (my PMC looks terrible)! Still reasonably happy given i only seriously started "training" mid 2013, and late 2012 I was a right fat bastard!

All 1 sec - 5min bests set this week...
1sec: 13.44w/kg (not sure how relevant this is with a Powertap)
5sec: 12.63 w/kg
15sec: 11.65 w/kg
1min: 7.19 w/kg
3min: 5:36 w/kg
5min: 5:01 w/kg

20min set back in June, hope to test again in the next few weeks
20min: 4:07 w/kg

I've just come back from a month pretty well off the bike due to the wife requiring surgery and copping a dose of bronchitis, I am working on finding a little form before the Aussie summer Crit and XCO Season, hoping to loose a little excess weight too which will help the numbers (I'm 80kgs).

Update, now Crit season has started starting to see the short duration numbers go up quite significantly. I will have to do a 20min test again sometime soon.

1sec: 15.08w/kg
5sec: 13.36 w/kg

15sec: 11.65 w/kg
1min: 7.35 w/kg
3min: 5:36 w/kg
5min: 5:01 w/kg

20min set back in June, hope to test again in the next few weeks
20min: 4:07 w/kg

5sec: 16 w/kg
10sec: 15,7 w/kg
30sec: 12, 5w/kg
1min: 10,1 w/kg
20min: 4,7 w/kg (tested by Coggan ftp protocol)

Need to get that 20min to 5 next season . First 3 are not important as I don't race.

If you don't race, then why would any of the numbers be important?

I'd keep my power meter and use it if I ever stopped racing. Can appreciate how people who don't race would still want to ride to power.

I train for 2 or 3 gran fondo's in the Alps, so I don't consider that racing . My goals make that FTP is by far the most important. However, I must say it's fun to drop your teammates on shorter hills .

Last couple of weeks:

2' @ 9.5W/kg
3'30" @ 7.9W/kg

1hr 5.4W/kg

Been doing all my training for short hillclimbs, lost 3kg and my threshold has gone up in W as well as W/Kg...
