The guys on the team at Davis already go 25 mph on the flats without too much difficulty. I would assume at least 28 mph for the pros even with half of them coasting taking a stroll
The reason for stating the question was to see how my training was going. I am currently able to stay at 25mph on flat for a long time. I train by sprinting from one stop light to the next, along with long rides. Note I am not a pro. I just have a great passion to do something I love. And next season I will make more effort to race competitively.

May I respectfully suggest that there are better ways to judge your fitness. Nothing beats structured training IMO
As to the pros, are they getting paid? Are they riding in a group. TT bike or road? Are they French?
Even then let me point out that lots of us could keep up on the flats, its the mountains that are the bugger

SO..... maybe this thread should be in the Training section of this forum? If you've never been there before, plenty of information for you.

BTW: if you take a look at average speed for pro tt's, you will see that a strong pro on a flat can do about 28-30mph for some time. . . the best have been 53-54kph in the TDF, and Fabian, for instance, did the 50km in Mendrisio @ 32mph AVERAGE, which means he was probably going faster than that on the flats. . .but that was on a TT bike. ..
If you want to test your fitness, just race.
If you turn into a pro, please send me a jersey.

That would need something like a 55x11 at 126rpm!
