That's terrible Louis, sorry to hear it.

Guess best part would be that cycling comes early on in the rab process.

Yes, I can't imagine being "un-active" on the bike for more than a few weeks.

We'll see...

On the other hand, the last thing I wish is misfortune to my buddy cyclists, but the awful weather around here these days makes the "forced pause" less painful to bear (we constantly have below zero degree temperatures, even 10-20cm snow forecast for today and tomorrow... :x very few cyclists outside the last 8 or 9 days)...

...Trying to remain positive...spend time wheelbuilding (3 (maybe4) wheelsets in project)...save money on gas expenses (can't drive)...and socks washing...

Louis :)

Well, last night I rode for the first time in approx 8 months. Last year I got really sick and ended up in hospital with a bout of salmonella poisoning and a rotavirus infection at the same time (Sal from eating bad chicken and RV from drinking infected water) after training really hard all winter and building up some of the best form I've had. After that I became dejected and stopped riding, but I'm glad to say the passion has returned. My FTP just before I got sick was ~340w with a weight of 69kg. After testing last night I recorded an FTP of ~210w with a weight of 75kg.

It will be a long road back, I'm targeting the 2012 Warny. So TP if you haven't been picked up by GreenEdge by then you can consider me in also!

No reason you can't ride with the also rans this year ;) With 6 months to train you'll be back up to high 200's and if your weight drops to close to 70Kg's that will be some pretty good numbers for a race like the Warny.
Go on - you know you want to

2010 was my banner year!

8500 km total
165km longest ride
4500m climbing on said longest ride
Improved FTP from 270`ish to a little over 320 during my peak (yay!)
Weight came down from 77kgs to a little over 70 kgs. Watt/kg went through the statosphere

2011 goals

much more mild, had a long illness this winter coupled with an injury last fall that has me basically starting almost from scratch. all that work for little carry-over!

Major goals - 10,000km riding
Ride my first 200km day
Take a cycling trip to Italy in the fall and ride my brains out in Tuscany for two weeks
FTP to 300

most importantly - have fun!

Update as at 15th June - FTP ~247w, weight 74kg.

This includes a 1.5 week layoff with a cold. Training has been all L2 and SST, with the plan of continuing that for another 7 weeks before I start moving to some 2 x 20's. The first few weeks I found it really hard to get into a training pattern. Now I'm starting to feel a bit stronger. I'll update my numbers again after the final 7 week block.

Raced my first ever TT last weekend! Seems I'm a little better at it than I thought I would be

Weight needs to come down, and soon. Otherwise power is starting to look ok again...

Wow that's a great result TP!!

Your training must be coming along nicely, you'll be off the front in the Warny this year!

Was pretty stoked eh :D

But there's still a looong way for me to go to be anywhere near the front at the Warny this year.

However like a certain Stijn Devolder, I'm planning to try and have my one peak for that one race

Sorry TP your win is meaningless. In any TT it is well known fact that times that count are those won with sheer aero-ness and carbon fibre bling. Yours must have been a timing error. Spend about 10k and then we'll see if you can do alright in a TT.

I mean, clip-on aero bars... the horror, the horror!

You should have heard some of the excuses afterwards from my mate (on a P3) "my FD was rubbing on my crank, cost me at least 15-20w"
