Mav?? From what I saw and was told it went: first break of 3, chasing bunch of no more than 10, main bunch. Is that incorrect? And given who was up the road there was no incentive for any big team to chase them down.
I'll stand corrected, but that's how I saw it unfold.

You are kind of right how it went but it was later in the race. This is a quick overview of what happened (obviously excluding sh*tload of attacks that didn't really eventuate to anything and lots of gutter action splintering field) from how I saw it (rough km estimates):

60km - initial break goes on KOM with about 8-10 from what I believe
90km - chase of 4 goes after break, which I was in
170km - chase brought back
195km - break bought back on first climb out of Camperdown -
198km - break of 3 goes clear over final KOM and other than that, final selection of approximately 30 guys remain in contention as the main front group.
220km - chase of 6 breaks away
230km - I begin attempt to bridge across to chase
240km - I joined chase coming through final feed zone to make final chase of 7
262km - race over, 3 stay away, 7 chasers at 3 minutes.

Regardless of what happened, tough tough day in the saddle!

Did you pull out due to hunger flat or just couldn't mentally face another 60km into that wind with only a few more riders still behind you? I nearly cracked a couple of times and pulled the pin but just kept plugging away and know exactly how it feels.

For the internationals and those who don't know of/understand the sadomasochistic beauty of the Warny, well, this might help

Well kids, it's 3 months out from this race again. God how the time has flown!

I'm in for it again, hoping at the very least to finish the damn thing this time.

Who else is coming along for the ride? Or got a race that's similar?

Got a 250km elite race in 15 days... My prep is pretty much done, not specialy for this type of race but im confident. Really much more a matter of race strategy and experience at this point

race prep today. 6 hours group ride on hilly parcours. Good solid saddle time, dialing nutrition and hydratation. Hope it will pay off in 2 weeks.

Given the number of kms you are putting in TP - It's unlikely that we would spend much time together.
But I think I'm up for it. The ATB will be on 2 weekends before so pretty good lead up for the Warny.
Can you PM me a registration link?

I'm not down for ATB, however would not rule out trying to grab a ticket the week of if the weather is good and do it simply for some more training.

Otherwise already done a 170 and 180 ride last month to get in the groove of long saddle time.

Hopefully Murphs is still coming down for it.

I'll be there again this year and hoping for better luck thats for sure. Lead up is very similar to last years race, 2 stages of the tour of geelong then tour of murray. I may do another NRS one day race in the lead up as well although not sure yet. Form is a little down on where i would like it to be at the moment but its starting to come good.

Good luck to all those racing the Warny this weekend!!

I'd love to know what sort of numbers you are taking into the race and what result you leave with. Of course wait until after the weekend if you're happy to post....wouldn't want to let out any pre-race secrets!!

Rhys Pollock can't defend his title this year. When the race calender came out he and his fiance chose their wedding date, only for the race date to be changed to the same date as their wedding.

Thats a shame about Rhys. I already now my result for this year as a DNS. Come down with the full blow flu and 2 different through infections at the same time 2 weeks ago which pretty much put my season to end. I was hitting really good numbers in the lead up and was expecting a solid result but thats life.

Dumb positioning and dumb luck 50km in saw me hit a pot hole and puncture.

:(

45km ITT and 15min behind next bunch, outside of the police escort, I finally caught back on. Tried to gee the bunch up to work their way back in the race, but they were (all ego aside) simply happy to finish.

So made it in to Warrnambool after 8-something (Garmin battery also died :? ) hours. At least it wasn't another DNF this year.

Well done to Pearson for taking his SECOND Warny!
