I have increased my training plan marginally recently, by about 10% per week, and it seems since then, I get a continuous light burning sensation just above and below my kneecap, in both knees but more the right hand. It tails off after between and 3 days after limiting my training

Anyone seen this before and have any idea what it is

Have you checked your saddle height? It might be off by a little bit, causing some knee stress. It is a good place to start at the very least.

how about above the kneecap? any idea? i got this pain when doing long distance riding.

a general rule is that pain in the back of the knee is indicative of a saddle being too low, while the front of the knee indicates a saddle that is too high. Remember they are just general rules, but knee pain is not a good thing. Cleat position is important as is cadence and gearing.

Sounds like patella (knee cap) tendonitis (tendon inflamation).

This will require some time out to let it properly recover, this could take up to several weeks whith lots of streaching, some physiotheray, hot/cold treatments and get some positional advice form someone that is good.

Continuing to agrevate this will just make it worse and lead to a longer time out when you finally have to do it.

For any knee problems particularely involving the patela great caution should be exercised. It sounds a bit like tendinitis but there is the possibility that it could be patello-femoral syndrome. If you do not recover with the typical treatments you should see a sports medicine doctor ASAP. You should be particularely concerned if you have any clicking or grinding in the knee.

Thanks for the replies, but I'm not sure its tendinitis as it is not a pain but a dull burning sensation. Ice packs ease it ,so it must be swollen tendon though. I'm going to rest it more and see if it goeas away..annoying as I@m righ in the middle of a race series ... and doing
