4 hours and 15 minutes on a trainer? did you turn your brain off or sleep through it? i would've gone crazy... ;-)

i agree with tippster, tell us more about distance, what you ate or drank, etc.

I just ment 4:15 riding time. Of course I've done longer on the road, but indoors, this is my record. I've watched all of my cycling videos a zillion times this winter, so for this ride I watched a couple of episodes of "The Sopranos" plus a couple hours worth of various music downloaded--anything that rocks, basically. My goal was four hours, but I was so brain numb towards the end that I lost track of time. No sensor for the rear wheel, so all I have is heart rate data:
Time . . . 4:15
Ave hr . . . 135
Total calories burned . . . 2239

Are you trying to develop slow twitch muscle fibres for endurance stuff?
135 is a bit low.

Must be base work. I think it would be hard to have a high HR because the pace needed would be difficult ot sustain for 4 hours. Plus, it is only early March, so lots of people are still doing base.

Right, this was just a long distance ride. Working towards the Ronde van Vlaanderen ride April 2 which is, I believe, 257 kilometers.

that is pretty crazy, I couldn't ride 10 minutes without my rear wheel info and some music. I find that It is much easier to do the long times at a very low heart rate, doing 160 at 4 hours on a trainer would be nuts.

I drank one small bottle per hour, which is about what I always consume, alternating a bottle of water, then a bottle of Gatoraide. The bottles hold 20 oz. or a little over a half liter. On the road for anything over 2 hours I also add Power Bars and Jells.

How about you guys: what type of sports drinks/food do you like?

I like cytomax the best for drinks. Hammer Gels, Power Gels and some for of granola bar.
