Powertap SL 2.4 or SRM?
Moderator: Moderator Team
I'm building up my new bike, if i buy the Powertap SL 2.4 i'll have enough money to build up a cervelo soloist carbon with full dura-ace components, if i choose to go with the SRM option then i'll probably buy a a canyon f-10 carbon frame and equip it with dura-ace components as well.
The only problem i might have with the Powertap is that i won't be able to race with power, but i will have one of the most advanced frames (if that's really helps some how).
Also, there is no SRM dealer in my country, so if something happens to my SRM (even a small problem) i will have to send it back to europe for a fix and that's might take some time (about 5 weeks if they fix it as soon as they get it) with Powertap there won't be such a problem because there is a dealer in my country and in my area.
Is the SRM really worth it? does it require a more frequent maintance and has alot of problems?
What is more accurate, the SRM or the Powertap?
Thanks.

1) You can race with your PT wheel.
2) Your local dealer can't fix your PT, he'll have to send it to the US
3) Accuracy is about the same, with PT getting the slight nod for stability.
4) PT may have a few more minor problems with dying batteries, weak wires, etc.
5) SRM needs more frequent calibration, including yearly maintenance IIRC.
In short - it's a toss-up. If you want to be able to use whatever wheels you like and have enough money, choose SRM. If you don't want to spend that much and want a system that generally speaking needs less attention, choose PT.

IMO, the Ergomo is not in the same league as the SRM/ PT because it
-can neither be calibrated nor have it's calibration checked without using another PM.
-measures power from one leg, then doubles it to produce an estimation of power.
It's a shame, b/c the Ergomo is the only PM to incorporate altitude, which I find useful for looking at files.

There may be a dealer in your country but they still wont be able to repair it.
