FTP vs Lactate threshold

A light bike doesn't replace good fitness.

Resurrecting semi old thread. If you go to a lab, they should draw and test blood with a lactate test meter!

Generally, 2mmol or the fist 1mmol increase above baseline (which is usually 1mmol lactate after warm up) = Aerobic Threshold / VT1 / LT1 / Top of Z2 Bottom of Z3. Lots of names for the same thing.

And 4mmol usually corresponds close to what cyclists term FTP which is just a lactate steady state that can be held for 40-60 min before exhaustion.

Lactate threshold was measured at 5.33W/kg, VO2max at 6.50W/kg.

The quality of the metabolic cart is very important. Good ones cost upwards of $20-$50k

That's an odd way to give you report numbers. LT should be in watts and VO2Max should be in ml of O2 per kg. Mine last tested was 4800ml of O2 max utilization per minute / 67.27kg at race weight = VO2 Max of 71.35

As others mentioned, use your stages and do CP20 -7 or -8% (-5% is not realistic unless you have a VERY flat lactate curve, all aerobic power).
Or if you have access to a wahoo kickr or computrainer, you can do a MAP test, which I think is better than CP20. See the protocol here:

What does the model estimation in GoldenCheetah give for your CP and FTP? If you have a decent amount of data (rides with hard efforts of 10-30 minutes), then the estimates are pretty good.
