Wattbike? Or perhaps a kickr and trainer road with sufferfest videos? Use your own bike so no difference in position, cheaper and is fully ergo controlled.

Well. I recently bought the kickr and its great. I use trainerRoad and Wahoo segments. What a well built trainer and what a great workout

I've wasted a lot of money on turbo's because I only like the ones where resistance is done through changing gears as opposed to resistance due to pedalling: the way they are described are myriad. So, I use an old Elite elastogel trainer. Recently I tried the new Lemond. Upside is it's as good as it gets for road feel; downside is the noise, which is awful.

I understand the Wahoo's quieter, but much less of a road feel as the Lemond. So, the question is: On the Wahoo, is resistance done by changing gear?

Nefarious - The pic you posted was great because I had my building guy to do a similar rig for the computer. So thanks for that.

Resistance mode can be via gear changes, ramping rate (cadence changes) or via ERGO mode. I never use mine in anything other than ergo, defeats the purpose of having a laptop, trainer road and kickr combo IMO. 99% of what I do on it is done at or above threshold for the efforts unless im doing sufferfest videos. Get on, try not to spew on the bigger sessions and then crawl off hahahaha.

I've had a Kickr for like 18 months... if I had to buy another one day.. I'd still buy a Kickr.

I would not buy a Kickr. Unless you are happy with the "free" watts it can give you.

The watt drift only appears to affect 'newer' Kickrs anyway - I've had mine 18 months and it's fine.

Yes, some of the newer kickrs are affected. I just Wahoo would publicly admit the faults. Because of this, Wahoo lost a few sales from me and others from my club. Someone alluded that Wahoo can only do fixes in software, not on the hardware. What does that mean? Don't they control the whole lot or does someone else make the hardware for them?
