You have summer there? Open roads???

I just commuted from work.-15.5C temperature. It was nice to test new tyres. 672 spikes in bike. Nokian Tyres Freddies Revenge 336 2.3". Very nice tyres. No slipping anymore...rides to work are bit harder now because I have summer gears, 34/16. Front ring is home made from solid BMX ring to XTR 180mm cranks. I just need more powerfull disk brakes with these tyres...Formula B4's are not enought.

Why so many studs? I ride Nokian Hakkapeliitta w106, and I find it sufficient. If you ride on frozen lakes and scooter tracks, I understand (and envy you). Few things are funnier than riding on "steel-ice"( you might have a similar expression in finnish).

W106??? They are affull. No really traction at all comparing better ones. Extreme 296 or WXC300 least. Nokian has new low spike count tyres for CX coming. Studds are on edges not in middle like in W106. Cornering on W106 is bit "interesting". And structure of tyre is like from car tyre...

Well, W106 is commuting tyre and it's desent to do that. On wall of Frediens Revenge 336 says "DH only. Do not ride over other riders" but it's good for me for everything. Hard core studs with alloy sleewes. Front 1020g and rear 1030g. But I but Continental Light Mtb 120g inner tubes...

There is very nice trails in snow from walkers and it's very nice to ride hard in them and try to "keep in". Much warmer that doing roadie group ride on snow. And with single speed, it's like doing over grown BMX. Nice workouts for the body and mind after lond road riding season. Real freeride...

It's very fun to ride on steel ice, ot bit scaring because it looks like there is only window glass under bike and dark water under that. But it can take a car...

Btw, those crappy "Innova", "Biltema" have studds like made from tin comparing Nokians. But Freddies suggested retail price is closer to 100€/tyre....

I have done a bit over 1000kilometres with the w106 during december, and I find them a nice compromise between rolling resistance and grip. I have no need to go that hard in corners during december anyhow...For getting in the miles, I think DH tyres are a bit over-the-top...But hey, I say tomato...

Ok, I understand. I just want to have fun,not just train in winters. Full frosen ski slopes are nice to ride down. It's way easy to pick +80km/h... Then you need more spikes...Road bike feels "silly light" to pedal somehow after these tyres....

Winter sucks.
Summer (and racing) seems so long away, and even living in a mild climate (although quite a wet one) I'm finding it tough to motivate myself now to get out on the bike.

I find I'm always taking the easy option, rather than sticking to my plan and doing the 100k ride, or the 5hr MTB ride.

I really admire you guys who live in the snow all winter and still get out and ride all the time. It take a mental toughness that I don't have at this time of year.

I'm longing for January to arrive, but that also means starting the turbo sessions, and I hate turbo training!!

It's actually easy. I don't have car and I HATE public transports. I ride to every place anyway, everyday. I ride like 8000km/year just because going to work....and I train longer rides on free days.
