Cassette/chain grinding on Wahoo Kickr Power

A light bike doesn't replace good fitness.

Hi all,

I'm using the latest generation of the Wahoo Kickr Power. Whenever I mount my bike on the trainer I adjust the limit-screws and gearing. I'm using eTap.

But there's a very notable noise from the chain/cassette and I can even feel the chain grinding at some point. The cassette on the trainer is brand new and so is the chain.

When I'm on the road I can't feel the same grinding and the noise is gone.

Do hometrainers just make more noise and let you feel the chain grinding more because it's static?

Or is there any solution to my issue?

You should replace the cassette on the road wheel and source .5mm cassette shims to better match the freehub spacing between road wheel and trainer so you do not need to adjust derailleur trim when moving from road to trainer and back.

The cassette on the road wheel is also brand new. And the adjustment is way more than 0.5 mm. It's more like 0.8-1 mm...

Is this using a Thru Axle? There was an issue with the early versions of the Thru axle adapter that causes a grinding noise but if you call Wahoo support, they'll send you a replacement part.

could it just be that the wheel and kickr cassette are very slightly different aligned? Probably you could solve this by adding spacers to kickr or just doing some barrel-adjuster turns each time you switch the bike to the trainer and back (or trimming if you run electronic).

my brother uses his supersix on a kickr and constantly has to adjust his gears between road/turbo

This seems totally ridiculous for a £1000 turbo trainer. It seems that some bikes just dont match up so well to the kickr.
