The bike just bounced on the ground while approaching the barrier and because of that he caught the top tube a bit too late

Aye there is no wrong or right way of dismounting, just an established way. Being able to dismount on the right side of the bike comes in handy in certain situations. It also helps develop motor skills in general. Part of Hinault's comeback training was doing cross and being make to dismount on the RHS of the bike.

I think I remember seeing a photo of Hinault jumping a rider and bike that had fallen during a race. Does anyone have that? Does my memory serve me right?
