How would this baby hold up for some off road use? I'm worried about the clamping mechanism not being able to hold a saddle still. Thoughts?

(The reason I'm looking at the USE is mostly asthetic; I'm needing a matte carbon post for my sworks tricross and I sold the specialized carbon post that it came with).

Personal opinion, no way... for exactly the reason you suspect. The clamping bolts seem to be the real problem, they are way too thin. Mine was no good for road use!

I've been using the aluminum alien for a season and a half with no problems. After the first few rides just make sure you re-tighten the seat clamp, as it tends to loosen with the first few miles of remounting the bike. Other than that, I haven't had any problems. Granted, I only weigh around 155. On the other hand, when it comes to cross I'm about as smooth as chip sealed asphalt and my remounts are alot more jarring than any bike or rear side should have to experience.

used one on mtb with no issues, but that clamp is just a real pain when it comes to making adjustments. that being said, remounts on a cross bike can be pretty harsh depending how smooth you are. just a thought.

i've used one for 3 seasons and i'm 180lbs. while hideous to adjust, once set up and locked that saddle is not going anywhere.

it pleases me greatly to only carry a 100g (cut down) post up the hills.

Personally, I like a really stout post for 'cross.

It definitely wouldn't be my first, second, or third choice.
