very simple/stupid questions...

hi guys...this morning I was thinking about using an old mtb frame to build a CX bike. i've never had one so I've some questions:

1) the wheels are different from mtb's? or I've to usa specific wheels?
2) can I usa a mtb frame to do it?
3) this frame has an old mtb rigid fork...I've to use a CX fork?

It can be done, but here is how you can best use an MTB frame for CX. ONe, Get some older Pauls Cantis that have VERY adjustable pad height. That way you can run 700c wheels with your bike and still have the pads match up. 700s are going to hold speed better than the 26" wheels on your MTB, so it is best to go with them. however, beyond that it is pretty simple to convert.

135mm rear hub, I think there will be not that much clearance for the tyre, because the 2" bigger wheel diameter and the up to 34mm tyres. The geometry of an mtb is also different, your bracket will be very very high. I shouldn't do it, get a cheap cross frame. The brakes are a problem too as mentioned above.

ok...so could be possible use a mtb frame...good!

I'll build this bike for training only, so geometry an speed are not so important...

My question is: does specifc CX wheels exist? or are only road wheels a bit stronger?

this frame already mount cantilevers combined to 26" wheels...and I want to make this project very very cheap.
