Hello all,
Cross is coming ! And I'm on the lookout for a new bike. I'm reading good things about the Focus Mares CX and am just wondering about it's max tire clearance. So I can pop some wider gravel tires in come spring.
Would love to hear from you, also if you have any experiences good or bad with this bike.

I've fit up to 38MM with minimal rubbing.

I'm running 38c Schwalbe G-Ones on my Mares with no issues at all.

Wouldn't recommend going any bigger though.

I have 33c X-Ones for rainy days.

I am running Clement Xplor MSO 40C on my 2014 Mares AX with ample clearance. For dry gravel I would confidently fit a 42C.

Currently running 36mm Clement MSOs with no issues and plan to get the 40mm tubeless versions as soon as Donnelly releases them.

Any rubbing at all doesn’t inspire much confidence if you so much as pick up a pebble.

It's clearance by the BB that's the issue.

I would say that you could fit some 40s on 100% straight wheels and still have a few mm either side.

However, as soon as you pick up some mud, it's gunna clog up immediately.

Remember the Mares is a CX bike which should be used with 33c tyres (to legally race on). It's not a gravel bike that allows for huge width tyres.

Thanks for the replies ! Unfortunately the mares I wanted is sold out, which was a force 1 for the same price as a new apex1. So now I'm looking around for other CX bikes, with manufacturer clearance up to 40c. Since I don't (yet ) race any uci- events I would love to go wider than 33c, which all the newly released CX bikes will do.
