Hi fellows,

just would like to hear what you think?

Open cycle has now been introducing a lighter version of UP, named UPper.
Seems the frame has a more advanced layup (which i guess is needed for thinner wall sections/ lower weight but still stiff and flexible)
Medium frame drops from 1100g to 870g.
3T Luteus II team is 550g and the new UPper fork is 375g.
EDIT = U-turn fork is 405g with through axle. 3T Luteus II is 550g with through axle.

New frame and fork is flat mount over UPs post mount.
Geometry stays same same.

But the set back is the price hike. UP goes for 2900 Euro for the frameset (no seat post included)
The UPper is a hefty 4500 Euro.

Yeah, pretty steep price I'm sure they'll justify somehow. Maybe they'll release a more budget friendly version next year.

I've been looking at the open up for quite a while but in the end went for the Niner rlt steel instead. Got last year's model at a 50% discount.

I'm 40 and there are other things requiring investment too.

Still, they're really nice bikes.

I'll bite when the 2900 model has all the tech and weight of the 4500 model. Nice bike for both cross and endurance events/touring I think. Still would need to hear from people who've used it for both and get their thoughts.

2 concerns : while ago "they" claim not painting OPEN frames, to show fabulous & spotless craftmanship... Naming all painted frames as "hiding build failures". UP comes painted ONLY... so it get birth to my suspicions. 2nd thing is : do I really WANT so light frame, and specially fork to beat it on gravel/ forest paths / fire roads ? I don't think so.... Lighter fiber- more brittle, no free lunch.

I can be wrong, and have plenty of examples for that ;)

Then why would you have UP and UPper?
It's like saying you want UPper for the price of an UP.

UP is originally available in orange and brown. Due to requests it also came in unpainted matte black.
So that is why they made UPper only matte black.
I would guess this also help them save 80g at the frames weight and about 20g at the fork.
