Has anyone built anything up? I am looking towards building a road bike that can handle larger tires and gravel well.

Miracles new GR029 looks pretty nice.

you should look on their website , the one you show is a old one
they have two recent cx frames witch are newer and with more clearance

one with 40mm the CX028
http://www.miraclebikes.com/products/path0143/path0163/FirstLook2017cyclocrossbikeslatestflatmountcarbonC30012334/
the geometry is perfect to me, 575 mm top tube
it has BSA bottom bracket and 27,2 mm seat post for confort

the last one the CX535 with 42 mm
but I fall in between two sizes
strange geometry

and 31,6 seat post

you can ask prices directly on their website
they are quite cheap
something like 575 USD with shipping to Belgium

Really like that frame amey, it's a shame that carbonda seem to demand a real premium price over other Chinese frames. Would of worked out close to $700 for me in total and I can't really justify that as its getting towards branded manufacturer with real warranty price.

I've had my eye on this: https://wholesaler.alibaba.com/product- ... 30878.html

It's not exactly a looker... but functionality wise it seems to offer almost everything.

Should be a fun build. I am going to build it more towards trail than gravel.

Get yourself an Ibis Hexle for the rear.

Any idea on how to figure out the thread pitch I would need. What I have comes with its own axle nut.

I built up a Miracle Bikes MC286 two years ago.
Currently around 20,000km on the clock, sometimes rough riding. Very happy with it.
I am now using it more than my road bike.
  • SRAM Force22 components
  • Built wheelsets using BikeHubStore hubs and Stans Grail rims
  • TRP Spyre brakes
  • Tune Speedneedle Marathon saddle
  • Zipp Service Course SL-70 Ergo bars
  • Continental Cross Speed or Maxxis Rambler tyres
  • for all-road long distance riding: Michelin Pro4 Endurance 28mm tyres
Weight is between 7.8kg and 8.2kg depending on tyre and wheelset choices

If I was purchasing now, I would consider:
  • the same Miracle frame but with flat mount brakes (CX028)
  • TRP Spyre or Yokozuna Motoko disc brakes
  • Rotor 3D30 46/30 crankset (if it becomes available)

The Chinese frames almost all use the Shimano E-Thru standard.

DT Swiss make one, as do many others, like Ibis.

How's the build going? Very interested in your experience with this frameset...

I just got the bike build up. It has R785 shifter, 7079 crank and carbon 27.5 rims. I have it rolling as a single speed build as I wait to fund the rest of the di2 drive train. I might keep it as a single speed for a while as there is a 100km gravel race in March I might use this for. Had a chance to do a quick spin on it tonight. It was stiffer in the bottom bracket and more stable than I expected (comparison being Cannondale Super X). Both of those are benefits for the intended purpose. I wouldn't call the it slow handling as the wheel base remained short. I hope to get a few hours on it tomorrow and I will try to snap a pick and see if I have a better feel of the bike.

Interesting notes:
-The quality of the frame is as high as can be expected of an import.
-Frame it came with full length cable guide for brake and shift.
-Tire clearance is about 50mm of tire in 27.5. I have Maxxis Crossmax 27x2.125 on a narrow 21mm internal rim. 3mm clearance to the frame in the rear.
-The bolt for the cover on the bottom side of the BB is a little (~1.5mm) to tall for the Wheels manufacturing BB86 (thread together model). Decided to go with a Dura Ace press fit model.
-There are different covers for the entrances into the frame for Di2 and ones with cable stops included.

If your dropout uses a replaceable axle nut, it is a Shimano e-thru style as noted. I just went through a similar search when trying to find flush style thru axles for my Hongfu FM079-F frame which came without any axles. What I learned is that you need to be careful with e-thru axles as they come in a variety of lengths and many companies don't tell you what length their axles are.

For my frame, I needed at least a 170mm long axle. I ended up with an IBIS Hexle but had to buy the 'Boost' 148mm version even though my frame use a 142mm hub as the '142mm OLD' Hexle is only 165mm long. I had previously purchased a DT RWS Plug-in e-thru axle but it was only 163mm long.

The downside of the Hexle is that it is a bit porky at 40 grams, uses a 5mm hex key (my front axle, a SRAM Maxle uses a 6mm) and the head is so large in diameter that it protrudes past my dropout. I kinda wish I had gone with a Far And Near or Carbon Ti axle but the Hexle was cheap ($24 delivered).

If you find that you need another nut for the dropout, the part number for the Shimano 'Fixing Nut' is Y27Y02000. As it comes, it is a little long for the pocket in my frame's dropout but I plan to mill ~2mm off it to make it flush again, while retaining some of the lip at the base which helps keep it locked in the dropout.
