I had a weird situation with my front rotor at my CX race this weekend. I went to hit the brakes on a descent and had a nasty pulsing from the front rotor, which almost caused me to wash out on a turn. I was able to keep it upright, but barely so. Today, I took off the rotor and found that it had what looked like ridges on the inside part of the rotor (not so on the outside). What do you guys think?

Truth in disclosure: this happened last weekend, too, but the course wasn't hilly (it happened on a straightaway).

I think it will help to know which brake calipers you are using. As an observation, the wear marks appear to be below the point where the pads normally make contact the rotor, so maybe you picked up some debris in the caliper.

I'm using Shimano 785 calipers with Shimano sintered pads.

I'm with ms0673, something must have got caught in the pads because that is very not normal.

Can you post pictures of the pads?

could it be one of the pad retaining clips interfering with the rotor?
I've had it a couple of times it makes a metallic whir, marks the disc and can cause brake performance to change.

I took a couple of minutes to disassemble the front brakes, took out the pads and inspected them. They looked alright, so I pushed the pistons back into their bores and reseated the pads. I also went ahead and swapped the front and rear rotors, but I'll eventually just swap them out, after the season.
