Could you upload the pics of the cable route from the frame to RD XO?

Dont have a pic handy but my custom Ti frame has additional cable stops for the rear derailure cable from toptube and down the seatstay so its more ore less tailored for an XO MTB derailure.

Wouldn't you be better off getting smaller chainrings?

A 14-40 has a smaller range than an 11-32 that weighs a third.

Reqiures a new crankset and im pretty fond of my existing Chorus 2015 50/34t with narrow q-factor (have it on 3 different bikes).

Choise between road cranksets (narrow q-factor) with 46/30t and non-square BB is limited to Sugiono XO and now defunct Middleburn - White Industries and FSA has launched 46/30 options in 2017 but they are hardly available still and equally expensive (especially in europe where Sugio's cheaper 601 is not disrtibute and would have be be imported from the US or far east adding additional costs).

Additionally 11-12-13-14t has far larger jumps than 14-15-16-17t, I'd like a tight casette with small jumps in the top end and i really dont need anything above 100 inches.

Was rellay fond of 50/34 with Campys 13-14-15-16-17-19-21-23-26-29 casettes on 700c x25mm with a smilar tight top and a max gear at 101.5 inches. 50x14t on 700c x44mm is 99.7 inches. I'd prefere a tight sequential top end at max 100 inches any day over too big jumps and a +110 inch gear which never need. If i go really fast down a decent i will go use a high cadence anyway. Above 60-65km/h i will tug and coast anyway and just pedal to accelerate out of corners.

Range between 14-40 and 11-32 are actually quite similar in terms of absolute range: 185.7% vs 190.9%. As a compariseon 11-31 would be 181.8% so differens in absuloute range is less than half a tooth.

Main advantage would be the top cogs 14-15t is way closer in range pr shift than 11-12t: 7.1% vs 9.1%

44mm 700c's absolute range:

50/34-14/40: 99.5-23.7 inches
46/30-11/32: 116.5-26.7 inches.

And ordinary 25mm 700c with 50/34-11/32 would be: 119.9-28 inches.

I used to run road triple cranks with 2x 26/40 or 30/44 before I went 1x. My wife still has such a setup, works really well.
