The bike on ebay appears to be a Workswell product. They're open mold bikes aren't counterfeit in the sense that they're trying to pass them off as something they're not.The build quality is pretty darn good-lots of folks using their R5 style bike (066) without any issues. They may not be using cutting edge hi compaction etc, but neither is 3/4 of the carbon industry.

The articles above are critical of companies like cyclingyong that sell outright counterfeit spec and Colnago bikes. Not nearly the same thing.

Drider85,
Have you gotten your Open Up Ebay frame yet from China? I think I am going to go with one as well but needed the XL and they dont have it available yet. Would love to see yours to see what you think. Debating between that one and the Carbonda.

My hope is I am on the front of pre-production and not being lead on. They put another 10 day delay before they ship. Grumble, grumble, grumble.

I will post up pictures, impressions and of course weight as soon as I have something.

As for the build it will be coming together slowly for the spring. It maybe a underwhelming build to follow as I wait for the bike budget to rebuild and see how good santa is to me this year. I am thinking 1x, XT/6870 Di2 buid with a 27x2.125 tire.

That will be a great build. I have been given the waiting game as well. I actually asked back in late October when the frame first appeared and they said it would be a month before it would be made. I contacted them again late November and they said it would be another 2 weeks. So I contacted them today and he said it should be any day now and asked me to contact them next Wednesday.

Excited to hear about your build and what you think. I will also keep everyone posted on what I am doing with my build. My plans as of right now will be Mechanical Sram Red Flat Mount converted to 1x11 and it will be more a cross/gravel bike with 700x42c tires right now. I may get a 27.5 wheelset for hitting some of our singletrack, which has a lot of roots, so I don't dent my 700/29er rims. Eventually I plan to gut the Sram red shifters for the new Wireless X-shifter that I ordered on Kickstarter but it will not be shipped until March.

What model of Haanjo did you get? How do you like it?

1. 1/3 the cost of the U.P.
2. No dropped chainstay so I can use my 38/24 double
3. Regular 31.6 round post w/ no proprietary clamp.
4. Weight is right in there with the U.P./Trail Donkey/Haanjo
5. Angles like the U.P.
6. Tires up to a 700x47 or 27.5x2.2
7. Rack & fender mounts
8. Every Storck I've owned has been phenomenal

Only negative is the straight 1.125" headtube, so it can't fit a Grit. Oh well.

For anyone still following this:
Viathon G1 - https://www.viathonbicycles.com/product ... 2122085489
or
Thesis OB1 - https://thesis.bike/pages/choose-your-ob1
Interesting. I've seen more companies rebranding the CRF696, perhaps due to the bigger tyre clearance. Only Thesis, and now Viathlon went with the older CFR505

These seem to be the closest to an UP without going down the off-brand rabbit hole: https://faracycling.com/bike/type/Grave ... nture/base
• A hi-zoot bike, pretty sweet
• An old bike, more fun than the new one actually
• Unicycle, no brand name visible

I own the Viathon and it doesn't use either of those frames. The drive side chainstay is dropped and it has room for 700 x 51 tires (I'm currently running 700 x 43 with plenty of room to spare)

So four years later, how did you get on with that frame? I was just looking for alternatives to the Open UP and found this thread.
