Anyone know what is the max size ? I have 40's MSO right now and at the back there is alot of space. I googled a bit and I have found a claimed 50mm at the back and 44mm at the front. I'm thinking it can probably fit a 29er tire of 1.75' or maybe a bit more.

Well 50mm is a 1.9-2.0, so 1.75 should clear in the front too.

I have one (not yet built up), but I read that the opposite was true. 51 at the front and 44 at the back.

A set of 1.8 Specialized Renegades should fit perfectly. They're fast rolling and light.

 Elmar,

Even the cat likes it. I can imagine they're great tyres on a bike like that but aren't you experiencing clearance issues in the mud??

The bike is used in an area with plenty of sand

27.5x2.1 front and 27.5x2.0 rear will clear a TCX as well if you're really looking to get fat tires in there! Mud clearance is mediocre at best though.

Giant's official word on it is 50/51mm front and 44/45mm rear.

I'm thinking of getting a 2017 TCX SLR.
I cannot find anything official on max tire clearance. Assuming i want to stay with 700c, does anybody know if these will clear the back?
Specialized Renegade 1.8
Rambler 45mm
Any other 45-50mm tire?

I'm hoping somebody has actually tried and can give some feedback.
I'm running a Fuji Cross (2013) with Stan's Grail and 40mm Kenda Happy Medium. I have maybe 1.5mm clearance on the chainstay....really nervous about the day that I knock it out of true.
Nobody in Indiana carries the SLR. One shop has an Advanced (Carbon) which my wheel had decent clearance in. My caliper showed maybe 51mm across but it was hard to tell with the wheel in it.
I'm curious if the SLR (aluminum) has more/less/same clearance.

Thanks

I'm taking possession of my new '17 TCX SLR 2 on Monday and my LBS called and asked Giant directly about the clearance. The rep said unofficially some of the guys at Giant are able to run 50 up front and in the back as well. I'm guessing that swapping the rear to a 142 thru axle gives it a tad more clearance.

Also, Giant does have alloy seat posts in their service department if you'd like one for bikepacking trips.

Thanks for the tip on the aluminium seatpost. Sounds good! They also have a seatpost clamp with eyelets for a rear rack that could be useful if you want to take even more stuff.
