Good and bad, centerlock vs 6-bolt Rotor hub.

The spirit of Grav-lo-cross. No but seriously, cyclocross and gravel go here!

Guys,

i was recently made aware of centerlock design, so i would like to see if you got something to share,

talking 6-bolt design vs centerlock?

I was told the importer of my new wheelset had not imported centerlock version, so 6-bolt it was.

Seems centerlock makes Rotors even more easy to replace?

Anything more?

Centre lock is heavier.

I only buy hubs with centerlock because:

1. Quicker install than 6 bolt
2. It doesn't strip
3. Can still take 6 bolts with adapters, but not the other way around

Birdman pretty much nailed it. Also, Centerlock isn't as susceptible to rotor misalignment or the need for small spacers to get it right. Plus Centerlock allows for the use of the fancy Shimano rotors. :D

Aha, did not know there were no adapters for 6 bolt hubs to CL!

There isn't adapters for 6 bolt hubs to center lock.
There are adapters to use 6 bolt rotors on center lock hubs

Tamu8104 has a good point.

Adding to my list, #4. Shimano's fancy rotors are centerlock only.

Shimano + Shimano, looks like a good combo to me.

That rotor is 6 bolt by the way.

Also, in my opinion rotor choice is based on riding condition. Is it dry/wet/muddy/long decent?

Rotor choice?
Mine go on, then come off if i need to maintain anything or replace them.
Probably once every 2 years for new bearings.

I don't know for sure, but for a start it's wet, not much long descents at all around here.

The main idea is this.

My Vial EVO is a nice bike, but i will not ride it when it's prone to damage. That includes rims full of crap which is killing rims.

This bike is to extend season to virtually all year and also to broaden the field of cycling.

I bought 2 sets of tires for a starter, Challenge Gravel Grinder 36mm, Conti Top Contact 2 Winter.

Later on i may add Hutchinson Sector 28 or 32.

I am a road guy, i rode MTB 20 years ago but that is not what i will do now.

I like to be able to follow impulses and if i feel like exploring trails or dirt roads, i will do that.

I have not used disc brakes except for a short period when i used a hybrid bike (which i sold).

So, let's say i am a virgin at this. I need to learn what pads and why, why should i use this or that rotor aso.

The frame is for 160mm rotors and the shifters and calipers are Shimano ST-R785 + BR-R785.

Wheels are Avion Pro disc 6-bolt (centerlock not avaible)

Well, ofcourse it's 6-bolt that is why i added it.

Some claim there is/ was no avaible 6-bolt rotors from Shimano.

I will get 6-bolt hubs at my wheels.

You have a very nice set up there. VERY similar to my Fuji (but I have mechanical RS685).

I would say that's as good as it gets. I do experiment with different brake pads though, those things are fun to play with at minimal cost.

Since we are Weightweenies here, and I'm bored at work... check out these carbon rotors:

http://www.bikerumor.com/2013/04/09/fir ... more-news/

I've seen sponsored athletes race them at the local events. Many big claims by the sponsored athletes.

One of the Weightweenies had some success:
