I can't see why they would be better than the lighter Valor wheels for cyclocross.

No that might be true! I don't find the data of Valor rims width? Is it same as for Avion?
To be fair, i looked for wheelsets working for a road/ gravel bike build i've been thinking of.
I never noted Valor, i only checked for 700c version (road) wheels.

I received a nice little brochure with the wheels. Actually the Avion is listed as bein 22.3 mm wide (inside), while the Valors are listed at 21.3 mm.
So maybe the Avion would be a nice CX wheelset after all. I'm going to double-duty the Valors as MTB wheels during the summer, I don't think the Avions would be very good for that (heavier), but for a road/gravel/CX bike they look quite nice. On CXmagazine the lightest option is listed at 1593 g, while the lightest Valor wheelset should weigh around 1340 g according to the Notubes website (mine are the Team version, and came in at 1440 g including yellow tape, and tubeless valves installed, claimed weight was 1441 g).
