I am wanting to convert my cross bike up to 11 speed, with cx1, and take advantage of the wide range capabilities of the rear derailleur.

My main questions lies with the XT8000 11 speed cassette. I know it will fit on a 10 speed mountain freehub body/wheel, with the offset largest cog. Just want to confirm that it will also fit on a 10 speed road freehub/wheel.
I am considering using the 11-40 cassette for some gnarly appalachian gravel races in western North Carolina, but will also be using an 11-28 for cross races. Will a medium cage cx1 derailleur work with the 11-40 cassette, or would i be best to spring for the long cage derailleur.

I am 99% sure it should be fine, just have those few doubts still in my mind.

Hub:
Shimano 10 speed mtb hub and 10 speed road hub are the same. It will fit.

Derailleur:

Sram says you can't use 11-28 and 11-40 with the same derailleur. I don't know if it is true. It would propably Work fine with long cage.

you'll need a medium for the 11-40 and while this will work for the 11-28 the shifting won't be as crisp as with a short cage.

It will fit on there, but the 11-28 (11 speed) won't fit on the same 10 speed MTB hub.
