hello

I have this bike for six months, i love the frame but everything else is to be improved, wheels are being studied
The brakes will take Ashima r1 who are on the way.
but my big doubt is the transmission, i am running a 36/46 and 32/11 cassete, 105 5800, i really need the 36/32 for the step climbs.
i am thinking to go 1X11 using a 40 chainring and a 11/40 cassete,

my medium cage 105 derailler can 40t cassete?
besides sram what other 40th chainrings are?

Race face do nw rings for cx too. I don't think your 5800 would accept a 40t cog however, in a situation like this either sram 1x or xtr di2 are your only options. If you're going to need the extra gears, you might as well stick with what you have

1x11 won't give you any weight saving in comparison to switch for lighter stem-bar-post-saddle combo. There you can save a lot. Same with chunky Colnago wheel set.
105 RD won't work with 40t, tested.

Resigning from versatility ( as you mentioned required ) to save what ? 100g ?
Having 2kg wheels, 350g seat post ... Where's the point ?

1x11 was designed as RACE setup. To choose appropriate front ring and cassette for CERTAIN course.
You will or push bike, when other will still ride on 36-46, or staying behind on flats/ descents.

I can be wrong, and have plenty of examples for that ;)
