My new cyclocross bike is fitted with mechanical Hayes CX Expert discs.

I understand that vented discs in combination with the relatively small pad size may result in rapid pad wear. Metallic pads and a more solid/less-vented rotor design (eg: Hayes Mudcutter or Avid HS1) apparently extends pad life in muddy conditions.

What rotors are you guys running/recommend?

I'm trying the Avid Clean Sweep rotors, seem to work pretty well and I also found a solid sweep for the rear that I'm keeping for the inevitable mud later in the year.

Would like to know what those who have a couple of seasons on discs are using, but at the moment I'll use these as they are easy to get hold of.

I've been using discs for cross for 2 years now....and since 2000 on MTBs.

For the cross bike, I have used Hayes, Trp hy/rd , BB7 and R785 brakes.

I have run rotors from Ashima ( my go to rotor), Hayes, TRP, Avid, Carver Mud Runner and Shimano Freeza

They all work well.

If it's going to be rainy/muddy....I put in sintered pads
If it's dry, I run standard pads.

Don't over think it.
