Looking to rebuild my classic IF Planet X before this coming cross season. I am planning to run a 1x10 system but want to get opinions on whether to run SRAM or Shimano on the bike. I like both brands, so I don't have a big pull one way or the other.

SRAM build -
Rival shifters
Force FD
Force RD
Force crank

Shimano build -
Dura-Ace 7800 shifters
Ultegra FD
Ultegra RD
Dura-Ace 7800 crank

I would guess that the SRAM mix will be lighter, but the Shimano system might look better on the bike.

What are your opinions?

I guess I should mention that since I am running 1x I won't be using those FDs afterall

SRAM CX1 has a clutch which should help to keep your chain in place, without a chain guide. If you are going with Shimano I would definitely advise to go with a chain guide.

You can also use a X0 or X9 10-speed (type 2) short cage rear mech if you want a clutch.

unless you put the shimano mech in high tension mode

Loads of people in the cross league i race in use no clutch mech, no chain guide and a narrow/wide chainring with no chain drops.

I'm running campy 1x10, record crank, chorus rear mech and shifters.

Turns lots of heads!

SRAM CX1 is 11spd isn't it?
