Here is my own version of a center-mounted Garmin 500/800

See more her on Tillquist's kitchen!

Cleanest version on here, but one major flaw. Most stems vary in cap/bolt width, so you would have to make a different one for each stem. My Pro stems are different than my 3T in cap width.

How is it in practice? Especially over rough roads. Seems like there would be a lot of vibrations.

Also for the mounting, does it go between the stem and the faceplate with the gasket filling the gap?

bangkok wrote:The Controltech Taxxi computer mount arrived. It's 9g w/gasket, and Garmin bracket is <15g total.

It mounts to bottom faceplate bolts, which are accessable for wrench and TorqueKey.

It's simple enough, and would be better with a lower profile so the computer sits lower and equal to bartops.

This design is so nice!!
My other concern however is the vibration aspect. I have this impression that plastics is more flexible and thus would absorb a little more vibration than metal mounts. How does this design handle vibration?

No vibration problems. Also, on my 3T stem the rear of the Garmin 500 unit just touches the faceplate top bolts ... which adds support.

Yes, the mounting is to lower stem bolts; with the gasket again the stem for the lower stem bolts, then the Controltech unit, then the faceplate.

Maybe Tillquist can chime in. I think vibration is a legitimate concern. With this design it would seem the plastic bit from Garmin is the one that has to absorb most of the vibrations, and I would presume that is the first part to wear out.
