Rotor makes a very good one, too. We have only heard good comments from shops.

Again, lets point out the the Specialized Tarmac SL4 is NOT a BB30 bottom bracket. It's not even a press fit 30 BB.

The shell ID is 46mm, like PF30, but the width is narrower than PF30.

You can run the Specialized plastic cups, with 6803 bearings, and then use the Wheels MFG delrin spacers. The included Specialized adapters have worked OK as well.

Or, you can run these:

I think that is the best solution. You can also get adapters from them to use Campy UT BBs.

Bump.

If someone can post a thorough review with possibly a video of what they consider to be the best solution out at the moment to adapt an OS BB (BB30) to Shimano, I would much love to hear from them.

Anyone know the weight of the Praxis BB30 adapter? http://praxiscycles.com/pages/conversion not listed on their website.

How does it compare in weight to a BB30 Bottom bracket + adapters?

Thanks

I just purchased a FOCUS Izalco pro 2.0 from Wiggle and they installed the FSA mega exo BB30 adaptor w/ DA 7900 groupset Di2 and the BB is creaking on every stand-up pedal stroke. I have taken it to two local bike shops and all they do is pull the cranks and add more grease, re-press the bearings because they think they are not seated well, put it all back together, and I stand..."creak, creak, creak"! So I am left to swapping the FSA adapters to find another press fit BB30 solution for my FOCUS. I will say this, the ride is awesome and the bike is a monster on the road. I guess that is the one reason I have not thrown it over a bridge yet! HELP!!!! I keep reading about FSA BB30 needs 609 Loctite applied and all that, but that doesn't get translated well to the Japanese shops in my area. Does anybody know of a bulletproof solution to remedy the creaking noise. The bike is not even a month old, but I can't ride it because the creaking drives me crazy.

Evigan wrote:Hi guys,
I'm getting a Specialized Tarmac SL4, and I plan to put a DA 7900 crank on it. The frameset ships with a Wheels Mfg adapter like this one:
http://www.competitivecyclist.com/product-components/2011-Wheels-Mfg-BB30-Adapter-for-Shimano-7624.19.1.html

However, there is annother BB30 adapter available, which allows for standard BSA 68mm bottom bracket to bu used; it's from FSA:
http://www.fullspeedahead.com/products/449/BB30-Threaded-Adapter-68mm

My question is, which adapter offers a more durable and less creeks-prone sollution? Accorning to a Shimano Youtube video, the BB30 standards is bad, since the bearings are positioned closer appart and thus offer less support to the crankset. From this point of view, the FSA adapter, together with standard DA BSA 68mm bottom bracket, is a supperior sollution. Plus I've also heard reports, that many BB30 users experience creaks in the BB area. What do you guys think?

Best regards,
George

Yes, Loctite 609 or 603 are your best bets if you want to keep that FSA adaptor.

Or get one of those Delrin based ones like the Wheels Manufacturing version shown here. They are pressfit pretty tight, and due to the mildly malleable nature of delrin, does minimise on these creaking, if not eliminate altogether. Just remember to install with plenty of grease though.

I used the wheels conversion on a SRAM Red GXP on the Ridley Helium SL and not sure if it was mental but it felt to me like it had some give.

More recent builds I have been doing I have used the Parlee BB - Feels a lot stiffer to me but again it might be my mind playing tricks.

vladoo wrote:I do not know, what is the best solution, but I can give you some info :
I used FSA adapter with FSA K-Force Light MegaExo cranks on my Focus Izalco BB30 frame, without any problem. Adapter is 52 g, it is in the frame, but could be removed with special tool (I did it personally and I have that tool).
Now I am using BB30 cranks from Sram.

I have a FOCUS Izalco as well which came from Wiggle with Dura Ace 7950 crankset and the FSA MegaExo BB30 adapter and it's creaking like crazy. Took it to two shops and they don't have enough knowledge to figure it out. I might be buying that tool to remove the press-fit adapters and try something new. The FOCUS Izalco is a kickass ride, but I can't get past all the creaking when out of the saddle. Next step, check the chainring bolts, to ensure they are not loose.

Yes that looks like my next solution. The Loctite route is my very, very last resort, but I heard it was the best remedy. I saw the DELRIN products for sale and sounds like a plan. Thanks

On my 2012 FOCUS Izalco BB30 I decided to go with Wheels Mfg BB30 for Shimano as a DA adapter. Can somebody suggest a good bearing selection?

AptosBigRing wrote:Hey Folks,
Saw the thread with our Conversion BB chat. Wanted to give a few bullet points on it and why we did it this way.

- We wanted a rock solid BB that didn't have any chance of wiggling/walking out of the frame like many of the adaptors our there do. Our system is connected in the middle so there is no chance of it wiggling and wobbling out. Everything we tested avail in the market was more of a temp band-aide instead of a real solid conversion solution.
- Bearing Quality on this initial version is about an "Ultegra" level quality as we wanted to keep the price sub $100 USD
- We are fine with not being the lightest option out there, as we want to be the most solid/durable option. Balance was our goal with it. If you're going to carry a few extra grams somewhere, we feel this area is the place to do it.
- In time we'll have a higher end version with a really nice stainless steal bearing used. Higher Price point.
- Patent Pending

Hope that gives a bit more insight,
Adam @ Praxis
Manufacturer

I originally used the Wheels reducers with the OE bearings in my Cannondale EVO but had major creaking issues. I replaced them with the Praxis BB and never had another problem.

Forgive me if I'm wrong, but the Parlee BB is only for Shimano 24mm axles correct? The wheels mfg kit is the only one that works for GXP right?
