Curious to know who are the engineers behind DA9000,DA9070, the new 11speed hubs and wheels? Anyone knows anything about this?

GreenEdge was testing the Di2 9000 since July. The delays are apparently just down to normal production scheduling and not due to any technical issues. They now expect that they will get them in February...

Thanks Geoff, heard the same thing yesterday at a demo day for a major manufacturer. Their top of the line bikes won't be available (at this stage) until late Jan/early Feb and even then only in small numbers.
Very reminiscent of the Ultegra Di2 roll-out situation. You'd have thought Shimano would have planned production a bit better after that one but....

A more noticeable "characteristic" to me is where the shift housing enters the body. It's a protrusion on the side of the body, as if they had to have it exit there, but wanted to keep the rest of the hood narrow.

Don't campy leavers expose that area (not the brake/upshift lever, the downshift bit) too on their ultrashift stuff?

Another question I had was regarding the CN-9000 chain- is there anyone making a KMC style quick link yet?
Ie apart from the Shimano connecting pin what other options are there for disconnecting the chain?

KMC has their current 11speed link right now. I would assume it is compatible until I hear otherwise. KMC lists their 11speed chain as compatible with DA9000 now.

Okay so I have ordered the 9000 mechanical drivetrain parts, look forward to getting them!

The issue of course is that all my wheels are Shimano pre 2013, therefore the freehub will be 1.8mm too short to accommodate the new cassette length.

What are my options with respect to getting the groupset up and running with minimal $$:

1. Use a 10-speed cassette with the 9000 chain like the Shimano R&D guy. It appears this works well with no issues. I assume the 9000 chain part is important. Wouldn't work with a 10-speed chain?
2. Use the 11-speed cassette but remove the last cog, this would give you much the same result as option one, but at least we know the spacing would work perfectly. Bit of a waste of an expensive DA cassette though.
3. Buy a cheap Mavic wheel and run 11-speed as per normal. Mavic freehub is compatible with 11 speed, right?

I like that option the best. 10 speed cassettes kinda work with 11 speed, but not well. What the point of having just the shifting parts of a high end group if it shifts poorly? Mavic wheels are fine anyways.

So what tools are people using to join their 9000 chains?

Anyone tried the (10sp) Shimano TL-CN27 chain tool? How well did it work?

Anyone got hold of the new 11sp TL-CN28? How does it differ from the CN27?

What about the Park CT4.2?

Just picked up my DA 9000 shifters hoping that it'll work with my current 10 speed components. I wasnt happy with the ergonomics of the 6700/7900 shifters so I just stuck with the 6600 until the 9000 came out.

List of Components:

9000 shifters
7900 crankset (compact)
7900 rear derail
7800 front derail (braze on)
6700 chain
6600 cassette (12-27)

1. Front derail works great with the shifter. Didnt have any problems shifting at all. Cant really tell if the shifting is better than the 6600 since I rarely shift on that side.

2. Rear derail was another story. It just wont shift to the 13t and it kinda rubs the 14th teeth. Other than that it shifts fine throughout the other gears. Most of the time I have it on the 15t so this is not a problem for me. Overall I'm pretty happy with the performance.
