Lightest cassette
Moderator: robbosmans
What are the lightest cassettes on the market?
Something that would still be reliable and with nice functionality.
11-27 or 11-26 , compatible with Sram Red 10V.
I was thinking about the KCNC full titanium, but have read not much feedback on that one.
Thanks!

The Kcnc Ti cassette is the one to get but ratios are limited and it's expensive. They only do a 11-23 for compact but on initial trial it runs even smoother and quieter than a 7900. That is saying something as the 7900 is a great cassette. Only Shimano so Red compatible.

We have sold 2 of the new KCNC full Ti.....as mentioned they shift very good and look awesome.
They are a bit expensive at close to $400 but compared to a Campy Super Record that only offers 6 sprockets in Ti it doesn't look that bad
Both owners use these cassettes daily for the past 6-7 months and so far they have hold very well.

You can use a aluminum cassette, but be careful when you shift, never under full power, ease off when shifting.
Ceradure/TiN coating whatever does no measurable difference besides the looks and corrosion stability.
The aluminium core is much softer than the coating so the coating will crack and then fall off.

If you go with a 12-25 or 12-27 you can get with all alloy gears rather than the 11t steel gear, that saves weight. or you can get the 11t from nino that is titanium.
I don't have a photo of a 10 speed one on the scale but here is a 9 speed 12-27 . the ten speed one weighs almost exactly the same. Which is really good for a 12-27.

There is a review from Bikeradar on the ceradure cassette...

Another thing about Alloy cassettes is that teeth are thicker/beefier so they last longer and don't break under power/shifting.
This creates the shifting smoothness problem that most Alloy cassette have and the long break-in period when they are new.
This is one of the reasons KCNC is moving all cassettes to full Ti.

Don't they do a 11-27 for a 50-34 compact?
I had the KCNC Sc/Al/Ti 10-speed Campy compatible road cassette but could never get it to shift correctly. My LBS gave it a go without any success either. I would love to find a light cassette which could be used on a daily basis with my Di2.
The new Red is right around the corner with a nice weight savings without the worry of reliability.

The Kcnc Ti cassette works really well with my Di2. It is also a really beautiful looking bit of kit. I first tried an Omni Racer one which didn't work. I've been told by a very reliable source that the Kcnc Ti is the only aftermarket cassette that does work well with Di2. I haven't tried all of them so I am only going on what I have been told in respect of non Kcnc aftermarket cassettes.
But as I already said at present there isn't a Campy version and you can only get a 23 with an 11T.
PS The Omni Racer does work with a machanical drivetrain and is a lot cheaper.
